He comments that
winter is breeding season for boars, so if he doesn’t use up all his
energy he won’t be able to get to sleep. He has a small fire lit, then
starts thinking about the New Years events. Ever since then he’s shut
himself up in the mountains and trained himself.
He
wonders why you won’t accept him and whether he’s lacking something. He
thought he understood, but it seemed to be the wrong thing. And for all
his running over the mountains and thinking about it, he hasn’t been
able to find an answer.
He still has it in
his head that he’s your body double and he doesn’t question it at all.
It was how his mind and body was designed after all. As human as he
looks, his mind and mode of life are clearly not. Every time he thinks
of it he feels his body and heart get so much colder, and a two stick
fire isn’t gonna change much of that.
Gullinbursti
comments on the cold, and Zaoh joins in saying the chill of a snowy
mountain is notably different. He thinks it’s fine though since tightens
the mind and body. Gullinbursti agrees, then finally processes Zaoh
being there and demands to know who he is.
Zaoh
proclaims how great mountains are, which freaks Gullinbursti out a bit
and has him demand he answer the question. Zaoh then introduces himself
with his shortened name, his full name, and school and club position.
Chernobog follows up on his example, and Durga does so too. Despite
being a Yoyogi student she’s joined Shinjuku’s mountain hiking club.
You’re
next in line and you declare yourself a club member too. Agyou is last
in line and makes a point of saying he isn’t in the club. Gullinbursti
is upset with more people showing up, and you comment that it was a good
idea to ask Zaoh for help since the search went by quick. You can also
say mountains alone are amazing too.
Zaoh
applauds you for saying something admirable for once, then says the
search being so fast was because Tanngrisnir had told him about this.
Agyou thanks him and having forgotten his name or position, flubs
wandervogel. Gullinbursti finally gets it through his head that you and
Agyou are there and is shocked to see you guys.
Time
skips as Shirou offers some tea as an apology to Gullinbursti for what
you and Agyou did. He awkwardly thanks him back and says to not worry
about it since he told you guys to call for him if anything happened.
Speaking of, he asks you why you asked him to come.
You
start to tell him yourself, but then you make Agyou do it. He’s
surprised to be put on the spot, then tries to explain. Gullinbursti
interrupts before he can get anywhere, asking if some monster reappeared
or if an army is invading. He figures it must be serious to have you
guys look for him and loudly proclaims he’ll protect you.
Agyou
blurts out that it’s just a rice cake pounding party. As a Norse based
character, Gullinbursti has no idea what that is and assumes it’s
something ominous, then asks what he needs to do. You give a brief
explanation about it being to make rice cakes. He still doesn’t get it
so he has a mild freak out over not understanding you.
Shirou
is weirded out by this and gives him another explanation that gets
glossed over. Gullinbursti gets it this time, and you follow up by
saying you wanted to spend time with him doing something fun. Agyou
tries to sell him on the idea, and Gullinbursti puts his hand on Agyou’s
head.
He says he doesn’t have any reason
to turn down his master and his friend, so he resolves to give it his
all for this party too. Shirou teaches him how to pound the cakes, and
you either say it’s clear he’s an avatar of fertility or say his cakes
are great.
Gouryou is sitting on his ass
saying the cakes are great too and says he just wants to eat them
without thinking of anything. Tsathoggua agrees, saying that having lots
of varied rice cakes after New Years food is their savior.
Gullinbursti
is baffled as he notices them, and it turns out the two also have a
kotatsu set up out at the shrine as they indulge their slothfulness. He
asks you about them, and you tell him one is the avatar of indolence and
the other is this year’s Chinese zodiac.
Gullinbursti
says he’s more concerned with Gouryou, who seems flattered by the
attention. However, Gullinbursti is having a bit of a crisis trying to
process that Gouryou is a boar like him. Gouryou gives you an abridged
New Years greeting and asks what you think of his formal clothes.
Gouryou
then complains about the people in his guild, and it turns out he’s
part of the Asakusa guild. He says when they found out he’s this year’s
lunar symbol they put so much work on him. So his plans to laze around
got pushed back and now he’s catching up with his stay home plan.
Gullinbursti’s
looming breakdown continues, so you tell him he shouldn’t mind it too
much as people and boars are different. Gouryou starts calling for more
rice cakes since they’re all gone now. Touji is surprised by this, then
tells him to wait since the rice is being steamed. Kengo decides to go
play with something in the meantime, having found a decorative badminton
racket.
Touji sighs as he wants people to
wait quietly. He decides not to stop Kengo though, telling him to be
careful with it since it’s shrine equipment. Durga says she wants to
play too, and you can either say you’ve never played badminton before or
say it’s your specialty.
Kengo says to
throw out rock or paper to decide teams, then the game gets underway.
Shirou yells at him to aim up, not actually hit the birdie at people.
Kengo laughs the idea off as boring and continues on.
Gunzou,
Ashigara, and Kyuuma show up, exchanging greetings and saying they came
for the party since training camps are on break. Durga waves them over
and Kengo restarts the game as Kyuuma joins.
Moritaka
then shows up to say the cake pounding prep is done and suggests
everyone join in. Hanuman is more interested in the badminton game and
asks if it’s an iron ball fight. Durga is surprised and tells him what
they’re really doing. Shirou comments that sports seem to play hard ball
a lot.
Gouryou is actually helping pound
the rice cakes, and Ashigara tells him to do it harder and put his back
into it. Turns out Gouryou is doing this because he lost a Rock Paper
Scissors game and complains he’s more a mental worker.
Hougen
shows up and greets everyone. Durga greets him back and Tajikarao also
appears to give his greetings and asks to join. Touji is surprised
they’re there since this is apparently patrol time for them. Hougen says
there’s time to come over during a break at least, bringing up the
importance of not being too stressed.
Touji
finds this enlightening, and Kengo is shocked at how differently Touji
treats older people. Tajikarao says they brought some red bean paste and
offers some since they go well with rice cakes. Hougen then teases the
possibility of giving out New Years money to all the cute students.
Durga
is excited by this prospect and offers the spot next to her for Hougen
to sit at. Ashigara says he’s feeling off to a lucky start this year
between the cakes and the money. Moritaka wonders if it’s okay if he can
have some too, but before he says much more Kengo tells him to just
shut up and take it. For reference New Years money is more associated
with younger aged children.
Hougen says
it’s fine and says the young should just accept it with sincerity. Agyou
asks if it’s okay for him to get some too, and he does. Shirou accepts
some and prompts the Evils to thank Hougen too. Hougen is glad he got
the decorative envelopes for this, though Touji tries to tell Hougen not
to spoil you guys too much.
Tajikarao also
tries to get some money from Hougen, though he doesn’t say anything so
Hougen asks why he’s holding his hands out like so. Tajikarao explains,
so Hougen apparently thumps him on the head and tells him he’s already
on a salary. Then he says it’s time to go help, so Tajikarao goes to
help pound cakes.
Ryouta comes in at this
point and asks if something is happening for police to be around. Touji
says it’s fine and introduces Hougen and Tajikarao as his teacher and
senpai. Shirou hands him a share of the New Years money too.
After
thanking Hougen, Ryouta says it’s time to shape the cakes while they’re
still hot, then almost burns his hands. Durga seems to use some flour
to roll hers up and starts working from there. Kengo says he sucks at
delicate work so he asks for the mallet to pound out more cakes.
Gouryou
is still pounding away at the cakes, and Agyou tells Gullinbursti that
it’s important to yell when pounding them out. He obliges, and the work
continues. Later Durga is writing Tokyo on something with a brush and
comments how hard it is. Moritaka compliments her handling of it, so she
starts boasting that she can do good at anything.
Hougen
says using a brush would be hard for most Transients and asks if
they’re doing the first calligraphy of the year. Shirou says they’re
writing their goal for the year and says it’s fun since there’s no
restrictions on it.
Shirou also mentions
that the extra rice should be done steaming, so he asks for help making
the cakes. Ryouta wonders if too many has been made, but Touji says
it’ll be fine and that they can give it to people that helped them over
the year. Hougen and Tajikarao excuse themselves here, and Tajikarao
says he’ll bring the cakes to the people affiliated with the police. He
also reminds Touji that practice starts tomorrow. Touji asks them to
pass on his regards and tells them to not eat too much.
After
they leave, Ryouta asks if it’s fine now. Touji says it is as the
shares they had to split up are already taken. Kengo says they should
dig in soon, and Shirou comes back to find the police are gone. Ryouta
hands out some toppings for the cakes, and Kyuuma takes some soy sauce
and flavored seaweed.
Gunzou takes some
soybean flour and soy sauce since he likes salty sweetness. Durga finds
grated daikon, natto, and dango, though she says simple is nice too. You
can say Tajikarao also brought some pot stickers earlier, agree that
simple is good, or offer your share to the others.
Gunzou
then asks where Ashigara is since he’d normally be eating ahead with
everyone. Ryouta and Hanuman come back from somewhere and bring out some
rice cake and veg soup. Turns out Ashigara helped make it using chanko
as a base. Agyou encourages you and Gullinbursti to eat, so you suggest
to Gullinbursti you guys join in. He thanks you guys in surprise.
Gullinbursti
comments on how warm the food is, and Agyou smiles next to him in
contentment as he says eating it after a sweat makes it better.
Gullinbursti pats Agyou on the head and agrees.
Later,
Ashigara says he’ll be taking some back to the others at the training
camps. Gunzou asks if it’s okay to take so many, and Shirou tells him it
is since you guys already divided it. Ryouta adds you guys already have
some saved for the people at the dorm and says he’ll give some to
Mononobe after they get back.
Tsathoggua
says he’ll bring some to Hakumen and the others so they can all sit and
eat together at a kotatsu. The Yoyogi students wave you goodbye and
leave, as does everyone else who follows suit. Most of the gang has
left, while Touji is cleaning and Agyou has fallen asleep. That leaves
you and Gullinbursti.
You and Gullinbursti
hold Agyou between the two of you as he sleep talks. Gullinbursti starts
talking about how he didn’t know what would happen, but says it turned
out to be a nice party. He does however ask why you bothered to ask him
to come if there were so many other people around too. You either
comment on him not understanding still or on him bringing the subject up
again.
He apologizes, so you tell him
Agyou really wanted him to come. Gullinbursti is surprised and asks why.
You ask him how the party was, so he says the soup was warm. He still
feels it now. You thank him for his first ever made rice cake and say it
was good.
He tries to argue again for
having more family members before he stops himself, feeling that isn’t
what you’re getting at. So instead he says he plans on going back to the
mountains to train again. He asks you to tell Agyou he sends his
regards, then says he still isn’t sure how he should serve you.
Touji
walks over and tells him he forgot something, then hands him his share
of the cakes. Gullinbursti stares at the cakes describing them as
misshapen and awkward, like himself. He’s confused you’d compliment the
cakes but refuse to approve of him. Touji says they’re good for a first
try, saying that they’re the first he made and the only ones in the
world.
Gullinbursti seems to understand at
the “only one in the world” bit, then thanks Touji. He says he’ll
remember today as he eats them later. Before he goes he tells you again
to call him again if anything comes up, then runs off without looking
back.
Some time later you go to some quiet
spot at the shrine and pull out your phone to call up Solomon. He
doesn’t answer, and narration says it’s been like this for a few days
now. You either try again or give up. He decides to show up this time to
pout at you.
You can either apologize for
being late, comment that he’s finally shown up, or ask why he’s acting
like that. Solomon continues pouting and says he doesn’t care about you,
telling you to just hang out with Gullinbursti instead. You then
comment that he’s sulking and say there are times he doesn’t show up
either.
Solomon recoils since he can’t
argue against that, then says it’s an act of god so he can’t do anything
about it. He then changes the subject to say Gullinbursti is the
problem. Not only did you ditch him but now there’s a boar saying he’s
your scapegoat, so now he’ll sulk at you for being friendly with
Gullinbursti.
You comment on him being
jealous but think there’s something else to it. Solomon notices
Gullinbursti is gone and asks where he went. Since he isn’t in the guild
he asks if you two had a fight. You tell him it was something like
that, say you’re upset with him, or just nod.
Solomon
gets excited at this and asks if you can’t do without him. He asks you
to remember that he’s the only one who’s fully in tune with you, then
pats you as he tries to comfort you. When that’s done he asks if you
have anything for him as an apology. You give him some rice cakes and
can sigh inwardly.
He’s happy about the
gift and starts eating, then says he’ll be counting on you this year
too. After that he asks you to play with him to make up for lost time,
and there ends the episode and the event as a whole.
