Onsen Jamboree Prologue Part 2

Things pick up with Ryouta commenting that a long vacation is coming up and asking what plans everyone has what with things warming up. Touji says he'll be going to a training camp with the police school where Hougen will be running swordsmanship, physical, and mental training. Kengo says he'll go train in the mountains and invite Hanuman to come with since he expressed an interest.
Ryouta calls the two of them stoic to be doing those activities and comments that he's not suited for those things. Touji suggests he try it out and offers to talk to Hougen about it. Ryouta is quick to turn him down on that. You either say training sounds right for you, say you'd prefer something less intense, or ask what the Evils are going to do.

C has an extra line where the Evils sit on your lap and gesticulate with arms wide while chattering. In any case Chouji speaks up to suggest going on a scout activity, describing it as a team activity where things will be done outside for several days. It's officially called the Warm Heart Springing Scout Jamboree, and it's a regular thing that the Missionaries hold. Touji points out that Ryouta was just singing about camp stuff earlier. You ask about scout stuff, the word jamboree, and comment that you haven't heard of those things talked about much.

Shirou returns around this point to explain both those things. Scout activities is described as outdoor activities to have various experiences and is for nurturing youths. Jamboree meanwhile is a word for a lively gathering, which is what the organizers want the camp to become. Ryouta welcomes Shirou back and says they started without him. You welcome Shirou back too and thank him for his explanations.

Shirou apologizes for being late and for leaving the Evils alone. The Evils chitter while Kengo comments on not hearing the word scout much. Shirou explains that scouts used to be specifically the boy scouts and girl scouts, and that they were a much bigger thing in previous generations. When Transients started pouring in the name switched to a more generalized one. Chouji chimes in to say that scout organizations used to be done by other parties, but now the Missionaries are doing it as a public service.

Chouji stops there to note that Shirou is well informed about all this since he wasn't told all that much despite being more involved. Shirou says he only just found out himself and that the school is looking for participants too. Ryouta asks for specifics on what the scouts will do, baffling Kengo into pointing out he was just singing about that just earlier and asking if he had no idea what he was saying. Ryouta admits he got carried away.

Touji thinks for a moment and says out loud that he thinks scout activities are like military exercises that approach death. Everyone else is stumped by this, and you either question this, call it full blown crazy, or agree with him. Kengo points out that Touji may be misunderstanding something. Chouji insists that nothing dangerous will be happening so people should relax. Shirou asks if scouting has age-based curriculums, which Chouji confirms as he mentions there's a lot of participants from the public this time. For now they're going to try having everyone hike and camp together.

Ryouta and the Evils get excited at the idea of camping, and Chouji adds that there will be pitching tents, making curry rice, and working together to do assigned tasks. He also says that Arslan made mention of some sort of secret thing being added in. Ryouta nods and says he can handle all that, and Kengo mentions seeing posters for it around that little kids have gotten excited about. Shirou asks you and Ryouta to go since you're all on the subject. You happily agree, shrug and go since you have no other plans, then ask what Ryouta will do.

Ryouta notes that it's unusual lately for Shirou to suggest he join some event, though he has shown leadership in the past before. But that said Ryouta is happy to go join in. You express excitement for camping and curry rice, or you wonder what this secret thing is. In C, Chouji has an extra line and doesn't seem to know, but he hopes it'll involve food. But in any case Shirou tells Chouji that he'll be joining in too. The Evils babble at him, so Shirou assures him he hasn't forgotten and amends it to say he and the Evils are joining. Chouji nods and says he's sure the Missionaries will be happy to have you guys.

Kengo is quiet, which Touji notices and asks if Kengo is making a face because he's feeling left out. Kengo bluffs that he isn't, and since he wants a challenge a get along camp would be too babyish for him. You either ask if something is on his mind, suggest he come along, or call Kengo stupid. B has an extra line where Kengo says he has a promise with Hanuman and tells you to not worry about him. C has a different extra line where he gets mad and invokes "no you" like a kid, and Touji can't be bothered to cut in with anything.

In any case Shirou goes to ask Kengo what he's thinking about, so Kengo says he was wondering which mountain to go to. Normally he goes to the nearby Mt. Hakone, and Ryouta asks about it being the mountain Chernobog came in on. It's been turned into a hot springs and tourist area, so Ryouta asks about it being a safe place. Touji points out that aside from Bald Mountain's shift, the rest are going strong. There's still plenty of difficult mountains with forests, active volcanos, or snow. Chouji goes on a tangent to ask if you guys want tuna with grated yam on top because Japanese pun. Shirou is alarmed at how carelessly everyone is saying mountain. You get worried about that senpai coming and order all hands to brace for impact.

Shirou says the classroom only has doors in the front and back and that the Evils sense something coming. Zaou barges in on cue yelling wandevogel, shocking everyone present since he burst in through the window instead of the door. He laughs about you letting your guard down as a natural disaster can strike at any time. Kengo points out that Zaou is more a man-made disaster than a natural disaster before asking how in hell Zaou got in through the window. Shirou can't decide where to even begin to point out the crazy but settles for asking why Zaou used the window since they aren't on the ground floor.

Zaou explains he was inspecting club equipment on the roof when he suddenly heard the word mountain. Impulse took over, and there we go. Ryouta is baffled and asks if Zaou just said what he thinks he said. You either call him absurd as usual, greet Zaou casually, or yell wandervogel yourself. In A, Zaou asks you to wait as there are things to do before getting to minor questions. In B, Zaou complements on how unflappable you are before returning the greeting. In C, Zaou approves and says it's a decent yell that will echo through the school.

Anyways this is Touji's first meeting with Zaou and he asks if surprise if he's the rumored Mountain Demon. Zaou points out that you guys said mountain earlier, and repeatedly at that. Touji asks if the word is taboo or something, and is then bewildered when Zaou decides this means Touji wants to join the mountaineering club. You ask Zaou to calm down since Touji is getting confused.

Touji is feeling the pressure and is getting the feeling he won't be able to get out of joining. Ryouta yells that you guys need to get Zaou to slow down and can't believe how things have come to this. Shirou questions if this is even possible, though Chouji changes the subject to thank Zaou for bringing mountain foods the other day. Zaou offers to give him more since he picked up a whole bunch yesterday. The gang is speechless that this worked, and Chouji sighs about his plan got Zaou to calm down. He then notices everyone looking dazed and asks about that.

You fumble a little and say Chouji is amazing. He just acts confused. Anyways Zaou starts talking about how crisp and bitter fresh seasonal vegetables are and how nice it is to have their flavors brought out. He says Chouji's gotten more skilled and is happy to see him getting better with cooking with mountain ingredients. Chouji thanks him and all the mountaineering club for the harvesting. You downplay it and say the club doesn't go that far, that they aren't qualified for anything more than that, or feel a little bashful as a club member.

Anways Zaou finishes up his meal, then asks if you guys all want to climb mountains. Kengo continues being the straight man as he says no one said that. They only ever said mountain so he has no idea how Zaou got all that from one word. Zaou pushes on and says the club has mountaineering plans over the vacation, and while he doesn't have that much time he can go with you guys. The main trio yell at him to listen.

Touji comments on how terrifying it is that Zaou is forcing the conversation to go where he thinks it's going. Shirou speaks up and thanks Zaou for his consideration but tells him you guys already have plans. This gets through to him, and he asks if this includes you too. You either confirm or say you wanted to go mountain climbing with him. In C there's an extra line with Zaou being happy you've finally said so after being a brat for so long and thinks about which mountains he wants to go with you.

Anyways, Zaou shrugs and says it's just that he came to late too invite you guys along. Shirou shrugs and says they can't really help it, and they can't complain, which Zaou is a little depressed about. You ask Zaou to cheer up, suggest going mountain climbing together another time, and say that the mountains will always be there. Zaou is surprised before agreeing that you have a point. He declares that you guys share a love of mountains even if you guys are in different places. Since he's on the subject he starts thinking to himself about going to somewhere new.

Shirou is glad that Zaou is accepting that you guys won't be going with him, though he doesn't get how this conversation got to this point. Zaou thinks aloud about having stuck with harder mountains lately, so maybe an easier one would work for a change of pace. He hopes you'll have fun wherever it is you're all going. You say okay and excuse yourself.

The bell rings at this point, so Zaou decides to get going too. Before he leaves he wishes happiness at whatever mountain you guys go to and yells wandervogel one more time. Touji compares him to a storm and asks what just happened. Shirou assures him that he's not a bad guy, and he's dependable on the mountains and good at taking care of other people. You realize you guys never said anything about climbing mountains and ask if hiking is a mountain activity too. Ryouta notices too, then suggests you guys might bump into him later. The episode part ends with an Evil making some noise questioningly.
