Onsen Jamboree Episode 5 Part 3

Narration starts off talking about Kamuy Kotan again, calling it the land with the endless blizzard. It's a place surrounded by eternal ridges of ice where time itself seems to be frozen, and life can be snuffed out in an instant. The kamui (re: animals) there offer up their bodies to the living in that harsh world. Every time they reincarnate and descend upon the land again, they go back to offering themselves up for the sake of those weaker than themselves. Everything began with that kindness in that world.

All the kamui believed that it was a univeral truth no matter what world it was to sacrifice yourself and give of your flesh and blood. Before long, this idea spread throughout the world for the sake of the belief they thought was worth believing in. And so a world where everyone would give their own life was born for the sake of those who could come later. The bear kamui Kimun Kamui was one of the kamui who followed this belief. The cycle repeats over and over, reincarnation then sacrifice. In this unchanging frozen world, this kindness never wore away.

However, on the other hand there was someone who carried the memories of the world's hatred. As the cycle continued on, there were people who had something within themselves wear out. This hatred and erosion is also a part of the System, the one meant to continue the frozen immutable world.

Things tune back to the present starting with Koropokkur landing down in this blizzard, and once he sets his feet down he wonders where That Guy went after commenting on how nostalgic the view is. He comments that if this is hide and seek, then he'll find them soon since kids are good at that. He walks through the blizzard as narration describes him as being as tall as a kid and carrying a butterbur leaf. He looks like a kid who knows nothing, but he walks with the certainty of someone who knows the world inside and out. Before long, he swings his leaf around in a way that hides him and he disappears from view.

Scene shifts back to your side as Kagutsuchi asks what is going on. Moritaka points out the weather was clear earlier so it's bizarre for a blizzard to come out of nowhere. Kagutsuchi tries to keep calm as he says you guys should fall back to the basics that you've learned in the jamboree. He makes a call for a roll call, then tells the Evils to raise their hands to be counted. After a quick head count he confirms everyone is there, then tells Shirou they'll all freeze if they don't do something. Shirou figures from the near impossible change in environment that happened means that you guys got caught in an overworld shift. Kagutsuchi asks what that is, so you either explain to him or make Shirou do it.

If you go with A there's an extra frame where Kagutsuchi is happy you did so. Shirou explains to the class anyways as he starts describing an overworld shift as the phenomenon where Tokyo is overlaid with a part of another world. He also mentions that there's a theory that they're based on the memories of the Transient that acts as the shift's core. The time setting of the shift isn't necessarily the same as Tokyo's as it's not uncommon for them to be set in the past or future. Shirou then says the first thing to figure out is what world the shift is based on, then turns to Kimun.

Kimun observes the all-encompassing snow and the merciless cold, then confirms that this shift takes place in Kamuy Kotan. He asks in alarm if anyone has heavy clothes for cold protection. He orders anyone who does have them to put it on immediately as he tells you that people in this world who don't have fur has that. Shirou says that the season being what it was back in Tokyo the most anyone would have is stuff with long sleeves. Aizen notes that not much could be done in this blizzard, and that if you guys set up the tent the blizzard would probably just bury it.

Kimun asks if Kagutsuchi can bring out his flames, though there isn't any firewood for him to light. Kagutsuchi moves to do so, summoning his fire around himself and controlling it so that it won't hurt anyone. The flames start warming people up, which staves off the danger for now. You sigh about being saved and tell Kagutsuchi he's doing great. Kagutsuchi is happy that his fire is helping you guys, but then notices that it feels like they'll go out soon. He tries to keep it up, but Aizen tells him not to force it as summoning the fire is much like breathing in Kagutsuchi's case. He can't inhale or exhale indefinitely, so he can't keep the flame up indefinitely either. Kimun agrees with Aizen and tells Kagutsuchi to continue on when he doesn't need to force it, so Kagutsuchi says yes.

Some time later, Aizen talks about being unable to find the path you guys came from and how the blizzard is badly affecting visibility. Moritaka notices something and tells Aizen to stop walking ahead. On taking a closer look, Aizen realizes he almost walked off a cliff so he thanks Moritaka for saving him. Moritaka says he's just glad he's okay, then comments on how dangerous this world is.

Kimun talks about how the blizzard is making things hard to see. If he were alone he could deal with it, but he notes this situation is the worst for you and Shirou since you have neither fire nor fur. Unfortunately Kimun only has the one pelt he can hand out too. Shirou makes a decision immediately and asks Kimun to give that fur coat to you. You express concern for Shirou and suggest it should go to him instead since he's the leader.

Aizen steps in to ask Shirou if he's making this decision based on personal feelings. Shirou doesn't deny that he wants to help you, but he also says he thinks it's the best decision he can make as leader to have you take the coat. It's thanks to him passing his trial that he can say so. Keeping your condition up will help the group as a whole he declares as he looks everyone in the eyes.

Shirou explains that you've gone through more overworld shifts than anyone, so his decision is to make it so that you can keep moving. Aizen refers to Shirou's love as the friendship that shines on everyone in the group and accepts his decision. He moves to take the coat from Kimun and wraps it around you himself. Narration says it's as warm as if it were generating heat itself, and it gently warms you up. Aizen demands that you not quibble about trivialities and that you live up to Shirou's expectations. You tell Shirou you accept, apologize to Aizen for making him do something he doesn't like, then wonder what you should actually do.

Shirou says that you guys should start off by huddling together and making a windshield. You guys take out the tent and act as the poles yourselves to make a makeshift shelter. Kagutsuchi says this is a result of your scout training and notes that you guys at least have some wind protection now. Aizen asks Kimun to explain the area to them. Kimun says it definitely is Kamuy Kotan, but is surprised as he thought you guys were in Tokyo.

Aizen starts repeating the points about how an overworld shift is a recreation of the place the core Transient was in before and influenced by the memories they experienced. Kimun winces, and Aizen asks him to take you guys to a place you can get shelter since only he knows anything about Kamuy Kotan. Kimun however tells you guys he doesn't know as he doesn't have any memory of being in a place like this. Aizen is shocked by this and wonders aloud if this shift isn't made from Kimun's memories.

Shirou starts to ask Moritaka for a favor as the cold starts to get to him. We don't hear what he says, but Moritaka agrees to do whatever it is. Kimun starts to ask what they're talking about when he senses something. You also pick up that someone is approaching you, though you're surprised anyone would be walking around in the blizzard. A voice cackles at you guys welcoming you all to Kamuy Kotan, and you are surprised to see Wen Kamui walking around as a separate entity.

Kimun asks Wen who he is before seeming to know and trying to deny the possibility. Wen is surprised Kimun would actually say that as he says Kimun already knows that Wen is him. He also says that the rest of you know him very well. Kimun turns to you to ask for confirmation if that's really what he looks like when Wen takes over. You confirm it's the same Wen who's showed himself to you guys multiple times.

Wen says that if Kimun Says They are Different, then he's fine with being called Wen Kamui and Kimun can stay as the kind one who just gives things to the children of mortals. You take note that Wen is insinuating that he and Kimun are the same person and ask if that means he's Kimun's future self. Aizen agrees with the guess since that's the only possibility of what happens if he hurts people, and Wen cuts in to ask Kimun if he never told you guys that kamui reincarnate. He also says he was the last form Kimun took and discarded before he reincarnated.

You ask Wen what he's talking about, and Kagutsuchi asks how Wen can be here if he's something discarded by Kimun. Wen laughs as he focuses on the question as to why he's there, and he suggests it's because someone remembered his pitiful self, which may be Koropokkur given the game flashes his silhouette. Kimun tells you all there's no need for any more questions, then accepts that Wen is himself. Suddenly being confronted with him with his own eyes is surprisingly bearable.

Wen asks if he hates him despite being himself, which he cackles about. Kimun asks why he has to turn into Wen, and Wen says he just showed why that is not too long ago. Kimun is surprised, and Wen looks towards Shirou. Wen talks about how Kimun can't give things to every single mortal child since he has a limit to things that can warm them up to hand out. Wen then brings up that it's the law of Kamuy Kotan that kamui give things to the weakest of children. He asks if Kimun remembers what he did to children who grew, and Kimun seems surprised by this. He knows that Kimun doesn't, and he points that out as the answer for his earlier question. Wen then reminds Kimun that Shirou is freezing behind him.

The Evils start yelling, and Kagutsuchi yells in alarm next as he says Shirou has fainted. The Evils attempt to wake Shirou up, but he doesn't respond. Kagutsuchi tries to summon his fire, but it doesn't seem to be enough to wake him. You call out to Shirou and say you need to do something as the harshness of Kamuy Kotan stares at you. Sorrow sets in for everyone, and the cold grips in harder. With nothing to burn, freezing to death is the only possibility open to you.

At that point, Wen is shocked at a sudden burst of fire forming and asks where something like that could be found in the world. A voice snorts that there is something to burn, a giant bundle of hot energy within the chest. Aizen steps forward, and Kimun asks if Aizen is the one putting out that warm energy. Aizen denies it as he says it's actually the burning love of everyone in the party.

Shirou starts coming to, which Kagutsuchi and the Evils notice. Wen asks how this is possible in the extreme cold of Kamuy Kotan, and you ask Aizen for an explanation since you thought his artifact only shoots laser beams. Aizen says his artifact burns love for energy, then turns to Kagutsuchi and says he learned from Kagutsuchi when he learned how to control his flames. He also says that the way Shirou expresses his love for everyone in the party was a hint too.

Narration describes how Aizen's artifact is giving off energy in a warm light like the sun as opposed to laser blasts. By scattering the power over its targets and holding back its strength it can be used to warm things up instead. Moritaka turns up saying he's found a cave where you guys can take shelter from the cold. Kimun is surprised and says he was thinking that he hadn't seen Moritaka for a while. Moritaka tells you guys that he found the cave with some of the Evils on Shirou's orders, and Aizen smiles despite verbally expressing displeasure with how thorough your guild is.

Wen laughs about how you guys are struggling, and he seems to approve of it as he tells you to keep at it so that his hate can be repaid. Kimun steps forward to say he'll buy time so that Shirou can be taken to the cave, and he tells you and Aizen to not let your guards down. Aizen agrees to fight, and he declares he'll ascertain what Wen's love is as he starts the episode battle.
