Onsen Jamboree Episode 2 Part 4

Scene picks up with the battle over the curry pot happening in riverbed area near the campgrounds. Moritaka manages to grab the pot and he can't let the mobs have it when Wen Kamui orders the ciramantep to charge. Moritaka then tries to ask for them to stop bumrushing him since there's so many of them, but he eventually resorts to tossing the pot over to Shirou.

Shirou catches the pot and takes the time to scold the mobs about possibly wasting food, even if the lid has been locked on for your pot. Wen says he doesn't give a crap and orders the mobs to attack him next. They charge at him and yell about eating the curry later, which throws Shirou off as he asks what they just said. He drops the point to comment on how the ciramantep are supposed to be Kimun Kamui's underlings, though he gets interrupted once said mobs crowd him. Shirou resorts to tossing the pot over to Kagutsuchi in response.

The ciramantep wake up and wonder what they're doing since they were supposed to be making curry before they got hijacked. Kagutsuchi cheers over you managing to stop them and is about to say the curry is safe when Wen addresses him saying he smells growth coming from him and decides to pull something else.

Wen draws the sword he has hanging from his waist and approaches Kagutsuchi, ordering him to get cut by his artifact, which he describes as a manslayer sword I think. Aizen however pops out from whatever he was doing to intervene, shooting lasers and yelling about purging the curry stealer. Kagutsuchi thanks him for saving him, and Aizen says he felt a public order disturbing presence and ran over. He initially thinks Wen is Kimun too before noticing a difference, then suddenly has a thought about Oldphion and Ophion that confuses him since he doesn't think they're that similar.

Kagutsuchi asks him what's wrong, but Aizen decides to say it's nothing and warns you guys that Wen is about to do something. Wen is standing ominously and dignified (despite that he speaks more like a young brash guy dare I say fratbro as opposed to Kimun's kindly old man), holding a piece of Kagutsuchi's clothes he managed to cut off. This apparently counts as enough skin/fur for him to work with to use his ability, and he says it's time to unveil things. He commands the piece to become his puppet taking the form of someone who wishes to grow, calling himself a servant of heaven as he gives his name. Shirou manages to catch that part, and Wen Kamui activates his NP.

Narration takes over to talk about Kagutsuchi's past, starting with how he was born in Takamagahara with fire running inside him. This same flame burned his mother, and when he came to Tokyo he started learning karate to train himself and control his fire. His being so young was the simple reason as to why it happened. He was unable to control his emotions, so he was thus unable to control his flames. But as much as he endured it, the fire would come pouring out. Kagutsuchi tried to grow in a way so that he'd be able to control them despite this, but an illusionary voice spoke to him from some corner of his mind when he trained.

The voice said that no matter how much he tried to control the flames, they pop out of him regardless. He believes that he cannot live without letting the flames blow from his body, which means he'll always hurt somebody. The piece of cloth that Wen holds transforms, and everyone reacts with surprise when it finishes.

Shadow Kagutsuchi manifests, and Kagutsuchi points out it looks like him. Wen says that the skin or fur (or close enough) of anyone that gets cut by his sword will take the shape of said person's past and become his puppet. He then says it's time to continue with things and refers to fighting yourself as a good test. Kagutsuchi is surprised by this and interprets this to be the trials that were mentioned back in the opening ceremony, and a flashback kicks in to replay Arslan talking about that.

Kagutsuchi runs off with his misunderstanding, asking for a moment to Wen's bafflement. Kagutsuchi changes into his standard dogi and comes back saying he's ready to challenge the trial. Wen is thrown off by this as he says he didn't mean it like that and tries to explain that Kagutsuchi will regress on his growth if he loses. Kagutuschi interrupts to say that wearing the dogi is the representation to take any challenge head on, which his Shadow agrees with. Wen is shocked the Shadow is acting like so, but he decides to shrug it off and let it be.

Ciramanteps block the way for them, and Wen laughs saying they should play with them there. You call out to everyone and say you're coming to help, but Wen blocks you himself since your sword would be his natural enemy. Kagutsuchi is still battling it out with his double, and you say you'll just have to try something and call out to him. Wen says it's time to have fun to you and says he'll cut off a part of your skin too if you let your guard down. You happen to notice Ikutoshi among the trees, and you ask why he's here as the episode battle starts. More story afterwards.

Scene picks back up midbattle as Kagutsuchi says it's a tough fight when fighting a past version of himself with the same moves. The Shadow asks him to give up since he can't win against himself. He argues that Kagutsuchi can't do anything at all except struggle with his failures.

Kagutsuchi doesn't come up with a response, and the Shadow continues on by saying that his flames will shoot out and burn everyone without any regards to who they are. He says that he hates that part of himself, that his enemy is himself. The Shadow talks about how Kagutsuchi knows he can't win against himself and that he shouldn't have any way of winning. He compares it to not breathing or eating, saying that going against providence is impossible.

Kagutsuchi staggers as his Shadow manages to get a hit on him. He isn't knocked down, but the Shadow presses the attack. He suggests giving up now, saying that if Kagutsuchi keeps apologizing like a wretch people will let him go. He'd be just fine making a useless effort just like he's always been. The Shadow pressures him to hate himself and suffer, which does seem to be getting to Kagutsuchi when you yell out to him and remind him what Kimun said, that he isn't his own enemy.

Kagutsuchi's head snaps up as he starts thinking about you and Ikutoshi. Ikutoshi is watching from wherever he is and is surprised by what's happening. As it turns out, the Shadow puppet punches Kagutsuchi in the forehead, yet somehow it is the one to be blown back. When it asks what's happening, narration says that the wind pressure from the fire Kagutsuchi summoned caused it.

Kagtsuchi agrees that he cannot live without letting fire out of his body, but he says that he doesn't actually need to point it at anyone, just like the one he respects does. Fire swirls around him as it shoots out at full power, yet it hits no one. It isn't shooting out in a straight line, but is instead arcing around himself. He slowly gains control over it as he breathes methodically.

Kagutsuchi talks about how Ikutoshi was always telling him to look around, yet Kagutsuchi did nothing but apologize. That in turn meant that he saw nothing as he kept his head down, frantically saying sorry. He was afraid, and he assumed people were tired of and angry with him. Kagutsuchi says he was wrong however, as looking back everyone was smiling kindly.

The Shadow says nothing, so Kagutsuchi continues on saying that everyone was worried about him, wiping the ash off of him and patting him on the head. He's not sure why he didn't believe, but he admits that he was the one who didn't look around. The Shadow tries to argue in favor of giving up using that point, but Kagutsuchi is so firm in arguing back that the Shadow backs off a step. Kagutsuchi then readies his fist.

Kagutsuchi declares that he doesn't want to just be coddled by people's kindness. Rather than show the parts of himself he hates, he'd prefer to show the parts of himself that he likes. The Shadow says that Kagutsuchi's flames are getting stronger, which means he can't get closer to him. The flames burst out alongside Kagutsuchi's feelings, and he then calls out his NP. The fires pin the Shadow's position down as it surrounds him, preventing him from taking action. Kagutsuchi swears to not hurt himself anymore for everyone's sake. He also swears to not think of himself as an enemy either.

The Shadow dissolves into darkness, and Kagutsuchi thanks it for the sparring before panting hard. Wen laughs at this, and you point out that Kagutsuchi's battle is over before asking if Wen will continue. Wen says it's fine for kids to stay that way being loved and given things, wondering why it is they choose to grow up. He also seems offended by Kagutsuchi saying in front of him that he isn't his own enemy. Still, he decides to retreat for now, but next time will be different. You're surprised he ran off, wonder who he is, and wonder how he's related to Kimun.

Anyways Kagutsuchi thanks everyone for helping and says he has the curry pot as he shows it to everyone. Moritaka compliments Kagutsuchi on his fight and tells him he was impressed by it. You congratulate him and/or say he's cleared the trial. Kagutsuchi nods, saying he did his best and that it looks like dinner can go on as planned. Shirou suggests heading back to finish up, adding that the fried eggs is really important to the dish.

Scene shifts to the camp as you head back, and you're surprised to see Kimun there as you ask where he's been. Kimun asks where you guys went and why you'd take the curry pot with you. He then says he was here the whole time and is about to finish up making the eggs for everyone. The rice is just about ready too, so Kimun asks Kagutsuchi to put the pot back on the flames to warm up.

Kagutsuchi moves to obey, and he says he thinks it'll come out great. Kimun laughs and says he's looking forward to it then. Meanwhile Aizen and Shirou find this questionable, with Aizen asking if this means Kimun somehow did not hear you guys fighting back there. Shirou also doubts that the trials that Arslan talked about for the jamboree was related to what happened, and he points out that Wen looks almost exactly like Kimun.

Aizen says he'll go contact the other Missionaries about the incident, though he notes that they've already taken actions since the first incident at the start. That said, he decides to put it off for now since he can't fight on an empty stomach, and even he has his limits. Shirou agrees since he's hungry too, so any talks can wait until later.

Anyways, Kagutsuchi warms up the curry pot again, then takes the lid off after a while. Everyone is amazed at the scents and sight of the curry, and Aizen starts commenting on how thick and hot the curry is. Shirou says the rice came out perfectly, then asks Kagutsuchi to ladle the curry out for everyone. Kagutsuchi agrees to dole the curry out, and Moritaka asks for a large portion, saying he can't hold himself back what with the smells and look of the food.

Kagutsuchi hands out a plate for you and Kimun. Kimun thanks him, then says it looks delicious. Narration says the curry is topped with fukujinzuke and a sunny side up egg, and dinner is completed with water and salad served. Shirou says a word of thanks to everyone who made the ingredients and the food, with you finishing up the formalities.

Everyone digs in, then enjoys the curry. Aizen is the first to talk, commenting on heat and thickness and the large cuts of the ingredients. As much as he's a sweet tooth, he says that the spiciness is superb. Moritaka calls the curry a masterpiece, saying the spiciness is comforting. Shirou talks about the depth of the flavor and how fun and tasty food made together with everyone outside is. Kimun says it's great and comments on how it's the curry Kagutsuchi made for everyone. You say it tastes great and/or that his handling of fire was perfect.

Kagutsuchi is happy that he brought a smile to everyone's faces. Chouji and Ryouta walk by, and Chouji says it smells great as he explains they came to try his curry. Ryouta says he came to join in since he heard there was some good curry here. Arslan and Zabaniya also come over, and Zabaniya says he came to try his curry as promised. Arlsan laughs as he asks if his portion is ready. Everyone's look great, but he was still looking forward to this one.

Shirou laughs and says they'll help Kagutsuchi since everyone wants a piece. Kagutsuchi says he made a lot of the curry, then moves to scoop some for everyone. You ask if you can take some curry to somewhere else since there's someone you want to give this curry to. Kagutsuchi is curious but doesn't ask, and he agrees to give you some to go.

Scene shifts elsewhere as Shuten comments on the curry being great, then asks Ikutoshi how Kagutsuchi was. Ikutoshi claims nothing much happened and that he was just checking if the nearby area was safe. Shuten however sees through it and says he was worried about Kagutsuchi. Ikutoshi gets annoyed by this and threatens to take the curry back. Shuten laughs it off and says he can't just give away something that good. Ikutoshi also admits it's good work by Kagutsuchi and laughs a little.

Back to your camp, Kagutsuchi decides to sit next to you after finishing giving curry out to people. He's only had a taste test earlier, so he says he's pretty hungry. He talks about it being great, though it does turn out a little spicy for him, so he grabs some water. The next time he makes this curry for Ikutoshi, it's going to be even better. The episode ends as Kagutsuchi makes that wish as he looks up at the night sky.
