Sunshine Christmas Prologue Part 2

Itzamna starts things off by narrating, and he talks about how the sun in the sky no longer counts as bright to him. Specifically, he means the sun of El Dorado, the one the shines by burning the bones, bodies, and lives as others as fuel. Itzamna starts talking about how a certain loss he had in the past was burned deep into his eyes. He never could have escaped from the belief in sacrifice, just like those brothers did. One of them hesitated to sacrifice another, but he had no compunctions about sacrificing himself.

In the end what happened was a single act of resistance, which was a silent withdrawal from the world. But even that probably did not leave any lasting scratches on Tezcatlipoca's chest. After all, by that time the dark sun no longer had a body to damage. Itzamna then laments a dream that he saw, one where the fire that burns up life wrapped around the world of El Dorado. It's a dream of that brightly burning dark sun. Itzamna then starts complaining a little about some loud noise he's hearing since he'd like to be left to his hollow rest. He grumbles as he says he'll go see what the fuss is about to wake an old man like him. It's probably an announcement that his winter hibernation is over or something.

Camera then tunes back in at your end of things as Ryouta voices his surprise at not having noticed that the sun hadn't set since he was so into talking about cakes. Chouji agrees, saying that while he was busy he did have thoughts that time seemed to be going by slowly. Kengo asks if the sun not setting means that this awful heat is going to continue forever. You are alarmed at the idea and wonder if Tokyo will turn into a desert with an eternal summer.

Shirou starts freaking out as he wonders how he should take responsibility for it since he only meant his remark yesterday as a joke. Touji tells Shirou to calm down since panicking won't actually help the situation. Touji then turns to Ded and asks if he has any ideas as to why this happened. White says you guys might know already, but when it gets close to Christmas, a lot of letters from children come in requesting presents. Most of the time the Christmas Evils read through and collect them, but White mentions that his bag is able to skip a step and give appropriate gifts for good children. He's wondering if the process going in reverse and having a request letter put into it had the bag grant the wish in this case. It's a present that a good child is asking for its family, so the bag probably would try to make it happen.

Ryouta talks about the picture the Evils drew as their letter and is a bit surprised at how straightforward the bag was with granting that wish. Chouji points out that it is still a few more days left until Christmas, as Ded's said though. Plus Christmas presents are supposed to turn up on Christmas night. Touji starts to point out that the sun being out means it's not actually been given to Shirou yet, and Kengo follows up asking if that means the sun's going to fall on Shirou's head. You have the same thought, try to deny the possibility, or say Tokyo won't just be turned into a desert in that case.

Ryouta freaks out for a bit before an idea occurs to him to suggest that Shirou be a naughty kid. If presents are sent to good kids, won't it be cancelled it he gets on the naughty list? Touji turns to Shirou and asks in alarm if he's done anything bad at all this year. Shirou protests in a panic about how rude that is, but he also believes the sun might actually drop on him for Christmas. You either yell that you can't imagine Shirou being naughty, say you can think of stuff if it were Kengo, or suggest Shirou starts being a bad boy with you right now.

In A, Chouji gets flustered as he says he agrees with you and can't even imagine Shirou as someone who'd sneak snacks. Shirou protests that he'd never do something so bad mannered and says it's rude to whoever is cooking for him. In B, Kengo is baffled you'd bring him up and asks what you mean by that. Shirou starts talking about how Kengo leaves his underwear and socks inside out when he puts it in the laundry so many times now. Kengo then tries to argue that it's not that often that it happens and that he's not the type to air Shirou's dirty laundry that fast. In C, Shirou is scandalized as he asks what you mean by that. Ryouta however interprets your intentions to be eating unhealthy stuff like dumping brown sugar syrup on soy flour ice cream or butter in seafood ramen cups. He knows how bad that is for you but just can't help himself of course.

Anyways, White steps back into the conversation to tell you guys to stop finding fault with yourselves if you aren't doing it to improve yourselves. He also insists that Santa would never give good children any gifts that would hurt them, then thinks to himself that it's strange how his Santa Power is weakening for some reason. His phone then rings, so he apologizes and takes the call. He's shocked by what he gets told, and he says he'll switch over to Black.

Black demands that Tanngrisnir explain things in the proper order so that he can understand. After a moment Black repeats in surprise that there's a rumor going around town about Christmas being cancelled. People are also talking about rumors about how 12/24 and the Holy Night won't be coming. This is so shocking to people that students at the school are falling over from said shock, and Black ends up keeling over himself too. Ryouta freaks out about Ded foaming at the mouth and tries to lift him for a moment before asking Kengo to help bring him to the nurse's office since he's so heavy. Shirou is only slightly more put together as he starts to make a call for help on his phone after that.

Some time later, White wakes back up and apologizes to you guys and tells you that Black is out cold. He talks about how all the students at the Santa School are always working hard for the sake of Christmas, but with people noticing that the sun isn't setting and thinking Christmas isn't coming, they're starting to get anxious. That might be why the hopes of the people that creates Santa Power, the power of a Christmas miracle, is weakening. You ask if this means Christmas can't happen or is being put on hold.

Shirou half-heartedly scolds you as he says Santa/Ded isn't that weak, but White says that it might be possible in the worst case scenario. White then starts asking you if you've heard about some certain customs regarding Christmas. He brings up the idea that Santa can only create a miracle on Christmas night. White explains that this is possible through the feelings of waiting for a miracle that people don't know is filling the city. He makes the comparison of these hopes to a fluid of some kind and Tokyo as a cup. Then when he/Santa shows up, that gets poured into him so that he can actually perform a miracle. Conversely, you could also say that's how Ded is able to get his class as Santa/Saint. You either ask about hopes turning into reality, ask about that miracle power not being Ded's inherent power, or say you don't get it. A and B gets an extra bit where White explains he just becomes a vessel for the overflowing hopes, which is how hopes can turn into a miracle in Tokyo.

Anyways, Ryouta doesn't totally get the subject, but he asks if that means you guys can create a miracle where you put the sun back the way it was if you fill people with hopes for Christmas again. White says he's thought of that idea too, but the rumor going around has been a huge shock to the Santa School people since it's making their efforts seem like a waste. This has the unfortunate effect of making the rumor closer to becoming true, but White would still like to do something about it.

The camera pans over the gang plus Chouji looking sad for a bit until Rough Waves Through Oedo starts playing, and Kengo asks if your phone is going off. You pick up the phone and ask who's calling since you're in the middle of something, and Andvari says he's finally got you on the line. He asks if you're free, then tells you to listen even if you aren't because he's got a new get rich quick scheme cooking up. He's so gonna use this suddenly hot Christmas as a business opportunity you have no idea man! Shirou asks you what's up when you get off the phone, so you say that maybe you guys can do something about those hopes and that you're going to see Andvari.

Scene shifts over to Andvari's resort as it pans through the place, and Ded comments on seeing it for himself once the panning settles down. Ryouta mentions that you guys came to play when it first open, but he's surprised to see that the place has expanded. Chouji mentions wanting to see the restaurant's menu, but he stops himself as he notes that it isn't the time. Shirou agrees, saying you should start by seeing if Andvari will agree to help. He's worried about this get rich quick scheme though but hopes it'll work out for you guys. You either declare it'll work out for reals, say it'll work out maybe, or sigh pessimistically and hope it works. In A, Kengo snorts at how much stock you're putting in this before seeing someone up ahead. In B, Touji thinks you're being too optimistic about this before noticing someone waiting for you guys. In C, White assures you that it'll be fine if you believe in yourself, then notices someone ahead.

In any case, someone you don't recognize is hanging around at the place Andvari told you to meet him at. This turns out to be Itzamna, who talks to himself about there still being some time until the appointment and considers dropping by class after he's done here. He hopes that Benten and Kuniyoshi haven't been fighting and bothering Licht while he was asleep, then he notices you guys.

Itzamna continues talking to himself about recognizing someone in your group, and Ded starts talking to him and recognizing him as the teacher of the painting class Iguana's House as he greets him. He never thought he'd meet him in this season and laughs about how lucky it is. Itzamna is happy to see Ded and asks if he's with his Santa School students. He turns to you guys as he introduces himself, then describes himself as a humble old man from El Dorado who works as an art teacher. He was once invited by Ded's school to teach children to draw, so that's how he knows him. You either politely greet Itzamna, tell him you aren't part of the Santa School, or call him a great, old-fashioned, gentleman lizardman. A has Itzamna approve of your manners and promising to remember your name. B surprises Itzamna as he asks why you're with Ded then. C surprises him as he wonders how appropriate that description is, but he takes it as a compliment.

White asks Itzamna about his reason for being here, so Itzamna explains he was hired to do some art direction for the place. Andvari wanted some event decorations up on the double and called him on the phone for a consultation. Ryouta is surprised by that and figures it must be a Christmas thing, and he suggests that maybe people will believe in Christmas if it goes well. Itzamna is confused and asks you guys what this Christmas thing is, which baffles everyone except Ded.

White remembers that Itzamna probably wouldn't be familiar with winter decorations. Warm as it is, it's still December on the calendar. White then asks if Itzamna is feeling okay. Itzamna just thinks White is joking and believes it can't be winter if the sun is out so bright. Winter in Tokyo is too cold for him, so he ends up hibernating for half the year. He also thinks he ended up sleeping right through spring and into summer and sighs about that being a problem. You are either taken aback at Itzamna thinking it's summer or his mention of hibernation, or you shrug, lost for explanations.

Anyways, someone tells Itzamna that you guys were also called over by Andvari, so he asks if you guys were asked to do something too. Just as you guys are about to explain in detail, a short figure runs up from further within the resort. Andvari rushes out and welcomes Itzamna to the place, then notices you guys are there too. Itzamna comments on his arrival and suggests including him into the big conversation.

One offscreened explanation later, Andvari is surprised to hear that you guys are the cause of this strange weather. White says it was an accident, but he says you guys would like to fix it up somehow. Itzamna notes that Ded is in trouble, so he offers to help with you guys and asks if Andvari will too. You plead with Andvari to help too, ask as a business partner, or try to appeal to him by talking about how close you guys are like it's a honeymoon. C prompts an extra line where Andvari is shocked by your phrasing and asks what the hell your school is teaching you.

Andvari waves the apology off as he sees a crisis as a chance to make some big money. It's why he called in an art specialist to rearrange his resort plans to suit the weather. He declares that he made his connections for times like these to handle stage equipment, outfits, and art direction. Having an active Santa around is just the icing on top of the opportunity sundae, and he offers to help produce the best Christmas ever.

White thinks out loud about Andvari's idea and talks about how he can find new challenges for himself as a Santa. He's pleased to see that he can still get some new experiences even at his age. Andvari then turns to you and says he has a lot of work for you he wants you to handle as a helper specialist. You either think the job title he gives you is dumb or tell him that you can handle anything. In the former, Andvari says you're a pro at getting caught up in trouble then tells you he'll be counting on you. In the latter, Andvari is taken aback at how quickly you accepted, then tells you you better take his payment for all this.

Andvari's first task for you is to help interview some people he has coming over to do part time jobs since he already has people inquiring about the notices he put up. Kengo is shocked by this since the sun thing literally happened today and asks if someone really did come to get interviewed that fast. Andvari brags about how quick his footwork is when he's serious, then recites the tagline for his apparent advertisements for the resort about beach sports and BBQ, great scenery and an ocean view. Great pay for the job, now hiring!

Chouji believes that this is going to turn out well and offers to help out. He can do anything related to cooking, and he mentions specializing in cakes and Christmas hors d'oeuvres. Andvari immediately hires him. Ryouta is concerned about this going too quickly, though he doesn't have an issue with Chouji being hired. Itzamna comments on how nice it is to see young people acting like this, though he does hope it'll go smoothly. He then thinks out loud about a sun that doesn't set, which makes him feel sentimental unexpectedly. Itzamna then gets caught up on the sun thing, and you try to ask him what's wrong.

Itzamna says it's nothing as he starts to say or ask you something about the sun, but before he gets to it, some people show up at that exact point to interrupt. This turns out to be Ziz and Yasuyori, and Ziz says they're here for the interviews before they look surprised to see you. And on that note the episode ends.
