Chapter 11 Episode 7: Queen of the Nightless City 1

Narration starts up by talking about random things. When the sun sets, the moon will rise. And when the moon sets, the sun shall rise. Daytime does not last for forever, and neither does nighttime. And so this cycle between the two turns without interruption. Someone strong will eventually turn weak, and someone young will eventually turn old. Some people can accept this. Others will struggle to do so.

Narration then focuses on Shiva, the young ascetic. He is the man called the World Representative of Deva Loka, the world that touts the belief in reincarnation. When his third eye opens, it is said that his original power shall manifest itself and he will qualify to become the Representative for his world's faith. Shiva however kept his eye closed as he pursued his training, wishing to continue climbing towards greater heights shared by no one. This is in other words a rejection of the exchange of emotions with other people, a rejection of the forming of bonds with others. All he ever wants is to train himself through fighting strong people. That is how he tried to be, believing that he had to be that way. But one day in the past, someone planted something unnecessary into his chest. He went on to challenge himself in wars, trying to deny those feelings.

Back to the present, Balor is laughing at Shiva for deliberately refusing to open his third eye, then says as king himself he shouldn't use his own eye either. He smirks as he borrows Avarga's help in closing his eye again. Balor then talks about how he was confident he could put down any army sent to attack him, but he never expected to be fighting Shiva like this. He comments to Avarga that whoever thought this up knew Balor's personality inside and out.

Balor says that things have changed now, so he tells Avarga that this is goodbye and suggests he take his student with him and leave. Avarga seems concerned for Balor, and Balor says he and Shiva are really going to have it out, so he can't guarantee his safety if he sticks around. He then says that Avarga has a student he needs to protect and has someone he needs to settle things with. Specifically, he means Arslan, the old lion at the Aoyama guild. Balor says he's had enough now. Ever since that one loop where he became a death row inmate like Avarga wanted, he's already settled his personal business long ago. Avarga doesn't say anything, so Balor says he knew why he was summoned in his older form. There was one last thing he wanted to tell Him at the end, but that's going to depend on what happens here. Avarga relents and says he'll wish him luck. Balor thanks him and says he should finish his own stuff too.

Balor turns back to Shiva, apologizing for making wait on their personal war. Shiva rushes at Balor, and it's the force of a one man army going against another. The scales start tipping in favor of Shiva and his youth though, but Balor taunts him asking if that's all he has and that there's no force behind his fists. He still smiles boldly, unfazed by the onslaught, and he swings back against Shiva with his incitements and battle experience. Balor specifically singles out how unfocused Shiva is, asking if this really is all his training amounted to, but Shiva demands he step aside so that he can chase after that devil.

Balor and Shiva continue to fight, using both of their hands and screaming their parts of the conversation at each other. Each time they strike one another, the sky splits while the earth roars. Balor asks Shiva if by 'Him' he meant you while he was talking to you. In which case, get in line. Shiva refuses to wait and says he is the only person that he has to utterly destroy, so Balor laughs at him for being so discomposed and asks where that unconcerned, unsociable prick went. If he wants to get past him so much he could open that stupid eye of his already. It has the power to destroy the whole universe to bits, so he can stand to use it now.

Shiva is slightly taken aback and says he swore on that day to never open his third eye. Delusions should be suppressed and abstinence should be strived for. The only thing he ought to do is train his fists and aim for the heights of outer space! Balor laughs and says that doesn't exist and is only an illusion. There is no such thing as a sun or moon that rises forever, which Balor says he'll show Shiva as he taunts him to come at him.

Shiva yells as he charges forward. The instant the two make impact and are focused on each other, Shinya calls out to Cupid for help, who then fires an arrow at Shiva. Shiva is taken by surprise by this arrow, which hit his mind rather than his body. Shiva in shock says that the arrow is the same as His, then yells about being unable to hold himself back. He screams as if in pain, unable to hide what he is feeling, and he disengages and runs off in the opposite direction you and Kengo went. Shinya leaves shortly afterwards himself.

Balor thinks to himself about what just happened, but before he can get far with that, sudden reinforcements from darkness appear and overwhelm Balor, pinning him down. A voice laughs saying it'd have been two birds with one stone if he and Shiva had taken each other out, but then again haste makes waste so he'll settle for just Balor for now.

Balor calls out to Daikoku and asks if he was trying to profit off other people fighting, and Daikoku reveals himself as he greets Balor and wonders how long it was they last saw each other. An untold number of Daikoku's underlings surround Balor now, even with him being unable to move by this point. Balor says he doesn't want to remember, appear in front of his soldiers with, or publicly carry the evil of someone incomplete. Daikoku comments that he pities Balor for being as old as he is to not know about his pride as a fixer in the shadows.

Balor tells Daikoku to shut his mouth and that he has some nerve to show himself without any shame in front of him. With Tezcatlipoca gone, Balor doesn't feel the need to be polite to him anymore. He never liked Daikoku, calling him a coward who thought up plots in the shadows. He thought about socking his face in the next time he saw him, but Balor comments that things have fallen out of order as he laughs.

Daikoku laughs in turn as he comments on how much Balor hates him since Daikoku likes him a lot...in the sense that Balor could be sold for a lot. He then talks to himself about needing to thank 'him' for telling him about this opportunity, which Balor asks about. Balor then figures out Daikoku showing up now must be due to Bertro and his accomplice. Daikoku doesn't say anything aloud about that, but Balor takes his smirk to be confirmation as he says he finally understands Daikoku now. Every time he met him before, his evil eye ached or gave him a sense of discomfort in some way. But now he realizes from how the shadows coiling around him feel that Daikoku Is The Same As Them.

Daikoku says the conversation went on for too long now, and he comments about how people always repeat their mistakes. He once went on talking like this before, which lead to his own failures. He says there's no more need to talk and says it's time to bury Balor in the shadows. Balor groans as Something takes him, and Daikoku takes the time to press his foot onto him while this is happening.

Daikoku talks about how it was a problem for him when Balor felt like he saw the bottom of the world so much that be went on death row. He says he'll now show him what it's really like to have your dignity trampled upon, and he talks about once seeing what lay beneath hell. He hated the world of the living, and he even hated the world of the dead. He declares the light of the sun and moon to be unnecessary, then talks about how they hate the light and run away from its brilliance. Daikoku then says everything is being done in Mahakala's name, then cackles. Eventually Balor gets back up, now apparently walking darkness himself.

Over in the Shadow Realm, Tsukuyomi is sort of okay as he thinks to himself that someone else has fallen to This Side again. He thinks on Daikoku's name, then thinks to himself that it Can Be Read That Way Too. Tsukuyomi then figures Daikoku is trying to enact the Transfer of the Land again in Tokyo, and that he used a trick to cloak himself in shadow and give it life, then take in hearts. Tsukuyomi does think that it's a problem that he's figured out the truth behind something but can't communicate it to the outside right now.

Narration talks about how Tsukuyomi is covered in a darkness that brooks no light. Sending a message to the outside is impossible, but if someone were to speak its true name, the illusion of this darkness would break and lose its power. Even if Tsukuyomi could see the light outside and understand things, it doesn't seem like there's any way for him to make contact to the outside. Tsukuyomi compares it all to outer space, with no atmosphere to carry his voice out. He then worries about whether everyone left at Kabukicho is doing alright.

As Tsukuyomi thinks about the Outlaws, narration notes that it'll be night time soon. Once it does, the Outlaws will be able to mount a fight one way or another. They have their queen in Kabukicho who shines in the moonlight after all, a nightwalker who receives the most fame and faith at night from several different world. Were she to face off against one of the World Representatives, they would be filled with fear and belief towards her. Tsukuyomi however thinks to himself, 'what would happen if night time was no longer a thing?' Tsukuyomi now has conviction since he's here what the people trying to bring Mahakala about are aiming for. That would be the stealing away of all light from Tokyo, the sun and the moon, the day and the night.

Scene then shifts to your end as Kengo notes that no one seems to be around. There are no signs of anyone alive there at Kabukicho, and Kengo can't hide his discomfort since he knows how it normally is there. You wonder what happened since it's usually so busy, but now it's like a ghost town. Kengo tells you to stop and asks if you hear something in the distance as gunfire pops off. You say you heard it and that it sounds like it's coming from that one alley, so you suggest checking it out. He agrees, telling you to be careful as you both head over.

Some time later, Kengo scratches his head since he heard the sound coming this way but doesn't see anything. You ask what it is you're hearing since it sounds like something is being dragged along, but then you react in alarm to something. You see a bunch of bug mobs around, but then you realize they seem to be acting strangely. Some other mobs try to talk to them and snap them out of it, asking if they recognize them. The mobs they talk to however jump and attack them.

Some of the mobs yell about not letting the others suck their blood, or else they'll turn out like them before getting cut off. Another mob yells for help, and you can choose to either go in to help or stay and watch. A surprises Kengo as he runs to follow you. But either way, the possessed mobs rasp about finding other strangers as they catch sight of you, forcing the episode battle as they demand your blood. The story continues after that.

After the battle, things pick up with you telling the non-vampire enslaved mobs to run away. You don't know why this is happening, but you point out that they couldn't fight back against their friends. The mobs reluctantly leave, and Kengo sighs about how you're worrying about others at a time like this. He says it's time for you guys to run too as he activates his NP, then grabs you and zips off away.

Some time later, Kengo stops and pants as he figures you guys should be okay now. He then wonders what in hell happened since that can't be normal. You say things were dangerous for a sec and thank Kengo, then comment that the mobs did seem strange, like they were possessed. Kengo thinks some more on what the other ones said, remembering that they said to not get bit and get your blood sucked. He then laughs about how this is totally like that thing in the movies, and you recognize that he's talking about that thing from horror movies.

Elsewhere, Ellie gets the jump on another bug mob and bites him, who then collapses. Ellie orders him to stand up, who starts speaking like a zombie or something now as he calls Ellie queen. She orders him to bite any other strangers to Kabukicho like the other mooks she's already enslaved, and the mob obeys going all yEs My qUeEn. She calls him a good boy, then wanders off elsewhere. Or rather, flies off. Scene shifts again to some other mobs who are trying to order Team Alpha to stand down and surrender their weapons, but this doesn't pan out as the possessed mobs attack them and murmur about how this is for their queen.

Camera then jumps to where Tanetomo is, who has just received reports of a vampire throwing their army into disarray. He's just arrived with a contingent of soldiers accompanying him, and he starts thinking as he puts his fan up to his mouth after hearing the news. He mentions that he remembers reading that there's a vampire running around in Kabukicho, and that just as the walls were put up around Tokyo, a native got bit by a true ancestor vampire Transient. Once that became public news, she became recognized as a vampire.

Tanetomo says he understands, commenting that the Outlaws want a night time guerilla war. He thinks aloud about how a nightwalker is an incarnation of fear that gathers the most faith here in Tokyo, and that he's heard that Marduk is terrible at fighting at night. Tanetomo then talks about how killing demons is the duty of Wa no Kuni's heroes, so he resolves to dispose of the vampire. The episode ends as Tanetomo mentions that he's had plenty of experience pulling night time ambushes.
