Chapter 11 Episode 8: Queen of the Nightless City 2

Ellie starts off narrating about how she was bit by a vampire that one day, which the mass media then published about. Just about everyone in Tokyo knows that if you're bitten by a vampire, you become one too. Because of that, she ended up becoming one too, more famous than anyone in Tokyo. And then she thought to herself: isn't this a modern day Cinderella story?

Ellie's narration then moves to some day where she's just woken up and doing an interview, asking if they're done now. She talks about how she's a high school girl who attends night classes at Kabukicho Academy, then about how she works at a business her mom (or perhaps a bar owner she knows) is familiar with. From there she makes her money doing media coverage and magazine modeling. She ponders whether this makes journalists her prey in a certain point of view and whether she'd ought to say 'thanks for the food' over that.

Ellie is surprised to be asked if she's really a vampire in this narrative interview, asking if the questioner really is from Tokyo. When told this would be for people who don't know about her, she mentions being a little surprised at that. She apologizes, saying she's never really met anyone who didn't know her.

But anyways, yes she sucks blood. She says it tastes good and works wonders for her skin, so it's all been peachy. When asked why she lives in Kabukicho and whether that has anything to do with being a vampire, she answers that she's always staying and living there. She's only up at night, and the other towns don't have much going on then. She's not fussed over all this since she likes how bright Kabukicho is at night, and she makes a point of saying she chooses to live there. Ellie then mentions that she's called the Queen of Kabukicho there because she's young and beautiful, and everyone listens to what she says. What else would you call her besides queen then?

Back to the present but a little before what's happening, Suzuka notes that Ellie's finally up and says it's now time for executive queenly work. Ellie tells Suzuka she needn't talk her up like that since they're friends, so Suzuka notes in some surprise that sarcasm never really gets through to her. She hardly ever shows herself to the guild, so she should at least put some effort in when she does show up. Ellie agrees to do so, then asks everyone to move elsewhere for a bit since it'll be dangerous.

Ibaraki is taken aback by this, and Suzuka asks if Ellie is saying it'd be easier if she were alone. Ibaraki however protests that it'd be crazy for her to go alone, but Gyoubu points out that Ellie could also be saying she'd have an easier time fighting if she were alone. Ellie looks to the kid that Marchosias (who notices this) is holding, and she adds that her fighting style might be a bit too much for a child to handle if they saw. Tetsugyuu attempts to protest that they should help too with fighting back against the people who messed up the town, then pleads for Gyoubu to say something too. Suzuka asks Tetsuya and Gyoubu if they're okay with this. Both smile in response, so Suzuka says they'll be counting on Ellie.

Later on, Ellie is flying around until she spots more mobs. She is noticed by the bug mobs when she swoops down, and they attempt to open fire on her. She evades all their shots to their shock, and they express disbelief at her speed as they compare it to her transforming into mist. Ellie then manages to slip behind them and bite them all. Once she has them under her control, she orders them go run wild and suck the blood of anyone not already her servants so there'll be more of them. Narration talks about how Ellie gets more beautiful the more blood she sucks. Also, the more blood she sucks, the more servants she'll have in her palm. Her slaves will then work on their own to add to their ranks, as there is no one better to disturb an orderly society than a vampire.

Camera then shifts to your end as you and Kengo are under attack by a whole bunch of mobs, and Kengo yells that there's too many of them to take on. You compare what's happening to a horror film before changing to a disaster film, and soon after that, Kengo realizes you two have been separated as he looks around for you. You call out to Kengo as you look for him too, and with the inability to tell who is an ally or enemy the whole place descends into chaos, so you decide to run into a nearby alleyway.

Once you're in said alleyway you figure you should be okay for the time being, except you run into Ellie. She notes that there are still outsiders around when she sees you, and you either ask or demand to know who she is, or you immediately comment on her beauty. In A and B, Ellie is stunned to hear that there are still people who don't know who she is. In C, she basically nods and goes yup.

Either way she gives you her name and describes herself as someone who can walk alone at night in Kabukicho, and she zips past you in a second. Before you can react much, Ellie bites the back of your neck, and you can feel the heat and blood seeping out. You lose control of your body, and before you know it you're lying on the ground. You react in surprise at your paralysis, which is strong enough that you can't even move your fingers. Ellie tells you you're wasting your effort and asks if you've heard about how you have to be a vampire's slave if you get bit by one.

You try to reach for your sword anyways so that you can dispel Ellie's control over you, eventually calling out for help. Solomon intervenes on your behalf, and you get up with a gasp as you can move again and thank him. Ellie is surprised by this and asks how it is that you can ignore her orders. Her enslaved mobs start showing up as you see her coming, and you getting into a fighting stance and tell her you won't let her suck your blood again as the episode battle begins. More happens after that.

After the episode battle, Tanetomo starts up a narrative flashback as he introduces himself. Once due to a cowardly plan, his father was murdered leaving him and his mother to wander around homeless. Tanetomo had his intelligence going for him though, which he used to take his revenge. He denies having trained himself as he refers to himself as a weakling, so when asked how he managed to pull if off he agrees to explain.

Tanetomo talks about how he disguised himself as a lady dengaku performer, flattered and cozied up to his enemy, and deceived him into thinking he was his lover. He comments that people who think they're in a superior position are easy to read, but he notes that you shouldn't think that he seriously opposed him because they'd have otherwise tried to kill him in a panic. When asked if he tried saying something cute and selfish to this scheming lord and running later, he says the point is to make them think he's wasting his efforts. He'd then manipulate his target into thinking he was on the run, and then he'd put his blade out and stab them. And then he lived happily ever after. Sounds like a chess puzzle doesn't it?

No that is not the end of Tanetomo's story. So, before he went on this mission to Kabukicho, Tanetomo read up on Ellie, the Outlaws guildmaster. He comments on how famous she is to have so much material on her, commenting on her being the most famous vampire in Tokyo. The more blood she sucks, the more beautiful she becomes while the one whose blood she sucks starts obeying her orders. She seems to think of herself as the best between her natural born looks and her given gifts.

Tanetomo starts describing Ellie as cute and strong and having never needed to use her brain...which means she'd be as easy to take down as taking candy as a baby for him. He then says you'd best remember how for the longest time, war is something that only people who stay calm and exercise their wisdom to the very end can survive. Not that people who are dumb could understand such a thing, he adds.

Back to the present, you and Ellie are still going at it as you note that Ellie is even stronger and faster than a World Representative. However, since she stubbornly insists on going after your neck you are able to predict her well enough to fend her off. Ellie eventually gets frustrated enough that she calls up all her servants and orders them to pin you down so she can bite you already. The mobs rush you, and Tanetomo takes the moment to sneak in closer. Ellie's slaves surround you, leaving you with nowhere to go as you think to Kengo to save you.

Ellie sighs about all the trouble you put her through and starts to say she can finally bite you, but Tanetomo interrupts to thank her for finally getting her servants to stop moving as he stabs her. Ellie is taken by surprise by this, as are you. Tanetomo starts talking about how his sword is a hero's sword granted by the Originator of Wa no Kuni meant to cut down and pierce demons. He admits to being surprised Ellie survived being stabbed right through her chest, but he's glad she can't move. Ellie's servants watch, but make no move to save her.

Ellie tries asking Tanetomo who he is and why he's doing this, but Tanetomo drives his sword in deeper to silence her. He does however agree to tell her who he is, and he gives his name as he describes himself as an advisor to the Warmongers and the Hakkenshi of Wisdom. You take note of Tanetomo introducing himself, and Tanetomo starts explaining his thoughts as he figured out why she sent her minions to attack all around. He saw it was because she told them to attack indiscriminately, so he realized he just needed to wait for her to issue a new order. He then asks her if it was hard and says it probably is.

Tanetomo advises Ellie that she ought to remember that the weakness of a leader who can order their underlings to do anything is that said underlings only do what it is she told them to do. He smiles as he notes that she probably can't hear him as he drags his sword around in her, and you call out and tell Tanetomo to stop since he's going overboard. Tanetomo's expression slips off when he hears your voice, and you ask if he knows Moritaka, Tadatomo, and Yasuyori if he's a Hakkenshi. Tanetomo continues to look blank as he mutters Yasuyori's name, and he stares at you as the episode ends.
