Chapter 11 Episode 10: The Ultimate Weapon Activates 1

Things pick up with with Kengo getting annoyed and asking Tetsuya why he's glaring at him so much. Tetsuya coldly demands Kengo not be so casual about calling him by name as he says he hasn't accepted him being there. Normally he'd never stand for someone who left Kabukicho once to come stomping around again. Kengo scoffs that he's not here because he wants to be. You either ask them to stop fighting, comment that they get on so well, or ignore them and wonder how far you've explained things.

Suzuka chides Tetsuya to listen and says he's looking like a brat for someone who's supposed to have been at this for a while. She points out that Ibaraki and Tetsugyuu are quietly listening too, and the camera proceeds to pan over to them. Ibaraki is having trouble following along and asks Tetsugyuu if he understands, but it turns out that Tetsugyuu has fallen asleep standing up. Ibaraki then tries to get him to wake up before Suzuka beats his ass in. You then cap off your explanation by saying you're here for the reasons you already gave.

Suzuka recaps the point about the Warmongers' ultimate weapon and how it's been aimed at Kabukicho. Well more accurately speaking, it's aimed at the hostiles here rather than the Outlaws. She comments on how stuck up the term sounds and wonders what this weapon is like while Ellie quietly thinks it over. Gyoubu steps in to mention that his underlings have heard about an ultimate weapon before, and he explains he sent them to gather information while they were resting during the day. Gyoubu then summons his kids out to have them explain, and they pop up with a burst of smoke. They then begin their explanation of what they've learned.

Narration steps in to show this explanation by turning the clock back a bit and play back what was happening earlier that day between Temujin and Marduk. The two fire volleys of arrows at each other, all of which cancel each other out in a shower of sparks and falling projectiles. Eventually Marduk decides to ask Temujin why he isn't attacking any harder and what he's thinking about. He also asks about Temujin's troops from the south and whether he really did march up here alone.

Temujin snorts as he says he's figured out from that question that Marduk has no idea what's happening in the latest news about the battle between the true big three guilds. Marduk is surprised by this and asks Temujin to explain, so Temujin says that there's no point in fighting him the same way he's done in every loop until now. Marduk is taken aback at this as he parrots it back, so Temujin confirms that is the case now. They the World Representatives from the start have all been fighting it out for the trophy, and the game has repeated itself over and over for that goal. If treaties are worked out, the game will change around them, but after a long period of stagnation Tezcatlipoca went up and destroyed those treaties. Temujin then asks if this means they're all starting over from the beginning.

Marduk stands silently, and Temujin says he's against that, but none of the World Representatives have any intention on giving up on the trophy. Temujin then comments that looking back, Marduk never seemed to have his heart in this game. Everyone may have been tasked with getting the trophy, but Marduk seemed to have little personal attachment to that. Marduk still says nothing, so Temujin says that every guild should be thinking about making a new move going forward. A new battle from a new perspective has already started for the Warmongers and the Invaders. Temujin then mentions that he came today to verify a rumor about the Warmongers' ultimate weapon.

Marduk the doofus designated as the audience surrogate for this conversation is surprised to hear about a rumor about their ultimate weapon. Temujin notes that Marduk clearly doesn't know anything about it or who's supposed to possess it. Marduk asks Temujin to explain, so Temujin decides to do so in respect for Balor's bravery even if, as he notes, he has no compelling reason to actually do so. But in return, he does want information from Marduk in exchange and suggests making this into a deal.

Marduk doesn't explicitly accept or reject this deal as he asks Temujin why he brought Balor up. Temujin is taken aback at how far out of the loop he is and says he's slightly jealous of that. He then brings up the questions of why Balor went along with Tezcatlipoca in breaking the pact between the guilds and why he fought against the Invaders. He starts to comment on Marduk not doubting Balor's complicity in that act (I think), but he decides to stop there for now. Narration notes that he's not answering the second question as goes over the first one.

Anyways, Temujin starts talking about how one of the Warmongers' secretly made ultimate weapons is the "moon dropper," which they are planning on testing out over in Kabukicho. Temujin is unclear on the details, but he supposes that if the name were literal, then he figures it'd be some sort of super long range weapon. That's probably why none of the other World Representatives have come out to the front lines since they can't have them accidentally caught in the crossfire. Temujin then asks if Marduk has any recollection of the other Warmongers giving some excuse to not head out. Flashback within technically a flashback ensues as the game plays back Mephistopheles and the Wa no Kuni Rep ducking out.
Mephistopheles: I'mma stay here. Thoughts and prayers everyone going out there!
(Wa no Kuni Rep): same
Mephistopheles: cool, fort buddies!

Back to the conversation Marduk doesn't respond, but Temujin figures out that he's right from that. He's not going to say they're betraying Marduk since they were already going against him in the beginning. It's just that after so many loops, the big three guilds started allying together due to common trends. Temujin then uses that as a point to say they shouldn't hesitate to trade information, then asks Marduk if he's the only Warmonger who went out.

Marduk doesn't immediately respond, so Temujin points out that this isn't a fair trade so far. Marduk eventually relents as he says Teda, another child of the sun, is also on the front lines. Shiva also ran off before anyone could stop him, though he doesn't know if he knows about that. Temujin finds Teda's presence to be interesting, and he suggests that the ones who weren't informed of anything are both Avatars of the Sun. He relates it back to the part about dropping the moon and says he's realized something else. Temujin talks about how leaders are supposed to lead up front since they won't see things if they hang in the back. He decides to end the battle here and leave, but Marduk tries to protest and keep the battle going.

Temujin notes that it'll be night soon, and while he is willing to show him his night time battle experience from his history of fighting, he clowns on Marduk saying that the Calf of the Sun shouldn't stay up late. Marduk doesn't actually fight back at this snipe, so Temujin rubs it in by saying kids should be in bed at night before laughing. Marduk essentially waves his fist at Temujin over this mockery as Temujin leaves.

Back to the present, Gyoubu says he understands and thanks his underlings for their report. They happily nod as Gyoubu rubs their heads before they poof out. Gyoubu then turns back to the rest of you and says that's what seems to be up with the ultimate weapon. Kengo expresses disbelief in something that could bring down the moon, and you either say it's hard to believe too, wonder if that's what'll happen, or point out that it might not be a literal description. C gets an extra line where Suzuka notes how calm you are before agreeing with that line of thinking.

Ellie comments that bringing down the moon is a concept that would be highly relevant to her since the moon's light is the source of power for vampires like her. Tetsuya says you guys don't have enough information now to figure out what it really means though. The Night King, who Tetsuya normally thinks of as a lazy ass douchebag, isn't here at the moment and he's their best information gatherer. Before he says any more, an impact causes him and Kengo to ask what's happening in tandem. You initially think it's an earthquake before you realize something is falling, or you comment on Kengo and Tetsuya being on the same wavelength. C has Tetsuya and Kengo both annoyed with you as they yell at you for joking at a time like this, again in tandem.

Anyways Suzuka asks what's going on, then asks if they really are trying to bring the moon down on the place. Ellie tells Suzuka that all her minions downtown got blown away, and narration says she can share what they sense. Suzuka is surprised by this, and Ellie adds that they were taken out by large falling rocks.

Scene shifts over to where all the vampire controlled mobs are, blasted away along with the ground. Giant rocks are falling from the sky, cratering the ground upon impact. If anyone with their minds working saw this, they'd probably believe that this is the end of the world, like the moon was falling on the city.

Over at the Warmongers fort, Bertro has finished with his orbital calculations and asks for another six shots to be fired. He then starts laughing to himself about what's happening as he says his calculations are so awesome. He and a couple of the other Warmongers are hanging around in their war room at the fort looking a screen, which shows an image of space and a giant fort. Giant speakers hooked up to the thing also play sounds of a gigantic railgun firing and the impact of its shots.

Duo observes out loud about the pinpoint firing of the railgun and how Bertro specializes in calculations for physics. He then asks him if this is what his plan for bringing down the moon is about. Robertro denies this, cackling as he says that this is just the step before that. There's still more preparations that need to be made to make the moon fall on Tokyo. But that said, it does have enough power to silence the resistance in Kabukicho.

Duo notes to himself that he's confirmed that one of the needed observers Bertro is actively and directly participating in the battle, meaning he's straying from his role of being one of the big three guilds' guildmasters. He notes that he needs to tell Karen Curren and the others, but he has something else he feels he needs to do as he turns to leave, but Bertro notices him going at this point and asks where he's going. Duo then passes himself off as wanting to take a walk and feel the night breeze.

Back to your end, the Outlaws are looking up in shock as another giant meteor is heading towards Kabukicho. You freak out about this and wonder if it really is a part of the moon and start to tell Kengo to run. Kengo starts telling you to hide behind him as he steps forward and gets ready to blast the meteor, but Ellie preempts him by kicking off the ground into a super jump. In midair she says she's sucked a lot of blood so she's got a lot of power going through her, which she channels through her limbs with what the game calls the faith for the strongest monster in the world. She casts her NP to buff herself with her artifact, and with just a rough swing of her arm, she smashes a rock over ten times her size.

Ellie soon lands back down without any issue, then casually notes that her boots got dirty. Kengo is baffled to hell trying to process what just happened, and you either comment that you saw something incredible or be amazed at the power of a vampire. Ellie chuckles a little at your response and says she can throw attacks of that level all day. Suzuka sighs at Ellie's power level and wishes she could use it during the day. But that aside, Suzuka says it's clear they're aiming at the city, so everyone should get away from there.

Camera jumps back to Duo, who is walking around somewhere inside the Warmongers' fort and thinking about what Bertro has said. He talks to himself about how he needs to figure out what Bertro's goal is before he goes to call Curren. What does he mean by 'bringing down the moon?' It's a shocking idea to be sure, but with the games looping like it has it doesn't warrant that much surprise. There's already been past loops with attacks on that level flying around. There are Transients who could cause earthquakes and bring down thunder right now, and there used to be ones who could manipulate meteors. There are also plenty of App users with powers that can oppose them.

Duo speaks aloud for his thought process on that point as he puts himself as an example of someone with an artifact that can Support the Heavens, and narration goes back into his thoughts as it says Marduk is another such example. Plus, even if the moon squashes the city, all that would happen is that a loop resets. There are records of early loops ending like that, and treaties have been formed to prevent such pointless actions from occurring again.

Duo thinks aloud again as he wonders what the point of doing something that's been done before would be, but then he notes to himself that the premises are different now. So, what if there's a point in doing something that was pointless before at this particular timing? Duo talks about how a bunch of pacts were formed since the beginning of the game, and now they've been broken. So what's changed since then? Duo talks about needing to reconsider some things one by one, then hits upon the possibility that there are several meanings behind 'bringing down the moon.'

Duo smiles self-derisively, thinking Curren and the others probably would have realized it sooner. He comments that even geniuses can make mistakes and that it'd be more constructive to think about the future. If Duo's guess is right, then the most important part is what happens after the moon is brought down. With the moon gone, complete darkness where no light reaches will come, and what can be done then must be important.

Duo then stops when he realizes someone is watching him. Mephistopheles reveals himself as he asks Duo how he's finding the place. Duo doesn't answer the question as he starts to say who Mephiestopheles is, and Mephisto preempts him by saying he's the World Representative of Gehenna, the One Who Loves Not the Light and giving his name. The episode ends as Mephistopheles asks if he can borrow some of Duo's time.
