Sunshine Christmas Episode 3 Part 2

It is 10 pm at Christmas Eve, and the camera tunes in over at the Santa School in Shinjuku. The students are getting ready for the big day coming up, talking amongst themselves as tension fills the air. Yule reports in for the Santa department saying their prep is done. Krampus follows up after him to report that the Black Santa department is ready to go too, with their coal all sorted out. Tomte reports in place of someone from the Reindeer department, then says they're done with their last bit of prep work.

Tanngrisnir nods at this, then says everyone can get something to eat until it's show time at midnight. He talks about how Christmas means tons of work to Santas, so he hopes everyone has gotten all their nutrients and stayed in good health. Tanngrisnir also mentions that presents from Ded have come in a short while ago, which is a bunch of different Christmas dishes that can handle this unseasonal summer heat. And of course, Tanngrisnir has added stew to the mix, which he insists that people have because he feels it's the most nutritious thing available.

Tomte asks if the food was made by that one chubby cook, then says it's great and hopes everyone can have some. Yule comments on the Santa clothes everyone was given and tries to remember how they were described, all weather model or whatever. Krampus says it keeps them cool even under the intense sun, which helps a ton for guys with a lot of fur like them. Tanngrisnir tells them that he's heard that a pro designer used a special fabric made by the Kamata Crafters to make them all, and Yule and Krampus react in shock as they ask if their suits were handwoven.

Speaking of that pro designer, scene shifts over to the resort where Arachne walks up to Ded and asks what he thinks of the clothes she made. White thanks Arachne and is impressed that her pro skills could get them all done so quickly. Arachne laughs and says this is small beans to her. She does mention that she chugged like several stamina drinks to work all night on these things though.

Arachne then changes the subject to ask if it really is late at night now since it looks more like it's noon now. White says that the day/night cycle has gone out of wack as opposed to how it usually is, which is probably messing with people's internal clocks. He asks her to hold on a bit longer until midnight of Christmas, which is when the night will return to normal. Arachne says she'll send the bill to the Santa School the day after, then wishes him good luck in bringing back Christmas before excusing herself. Before she leaves though, White invites her to stick around and watch what's going to happen.

Arachne is surprised by the suggestion and isn't that excited about doing so. White however convinces her by talking about how much the clothes will shine when he and all the good children take back Christmas while wearing them. Arachne agrees to take a front row seat for the show, though she has a concern. When White asks what it is, Arachne notes that Ded doesn't look like he's doing well, so she asks if he's okay. White doesn't give a verbal response, only smiling gently at her.

Itzamna then starts taking over narration as he comments on having that dream again whenever he closes his eyes. It's vivid to the point that he compares to having the sun searing the scenery onto his eyelids. Itzamna talks about how in El Dorado, everyone praises the Avatar of the Sun who harmed himself to achieve victory when creating the world. That was the beginning of the belief that 'that was the correct thing to do,' and people began to cast their lives as kindling for the Dark Golden Sun.

Now that he thinks about it, that is what Itzamna would call the despair of his life since the faith of an established world cannot be stopped. He tried out all sorts of plans even though he knew they would fail, and every time he raised his voice to speak out it ended in vain. He bemoaned failing the world, calling himself a powerless rotting life. His frustrations and wanderings repeated many times, and eventually he drifted to Tokyo.

He talks about how wonderful it is that Tokyo is filled with young people with so much potential as he thinks of Team Art School. When he thinks of the event cast minus Ded, he talks about how every world has its frustrations and regrets. Still, the world looked vibrant and colorful to him. But the more Itzamna learned about Tokyo, the more it became apparent to him that he couldn't save his home world or the children he said he treasured. He couldn't believe in anything, and Itzamna then starts talking about how the piling snow is hiding away his heart, which he doesn't want to see.

Back to the present, Itzamna starts waking up as you've been trying to call to him for a while now. Itzamna apologizes, saying he ended up dreaming when he closed his eyes. He then says he needs to be awake to watch you guys get to the biggest part of the plan, so you respond by saying you've got it covered, say you'll figure it out, or say he looks good in his swimsuit. In A and B, Yasuyori offers Itzamna some cold water. Itzamna thanks him for his consideration, and Yasuyori says he's glad if he can be of help. In C, Itzamna turns his attention to the swimsuit and says it's a good design. He mentions that his art students looked it up and got it as a present for him when he told them he was going to the beach. Itzamna says it's been tailored to fit his body type, which he's happy about.\

Anyways, Ded walks over noting that everyone is here and says it's time to get ready. Itzamna says he'll go on ahead then, but Yasuyori stops him and asks for a bit of his time. When Itzamna turns to face him, Yasuyori stands at attention and bows to him, then says he wants to apologize for what he said the other day. Itzanma sadly asks Yasuyori to raise his head, telling him he only just talked about what he had decided on. He was in the wrong to not believe in you young ones, and he was unable to accept your courage in not fearing failure, just like that one time.

You assure Itzamna it'll be okay since you'll protect Yasuyori. Even if you guys fail, you'll both return at least. Itzamna addresses the two of you and says he'll be watching you guys fulfill your promise, and he says he'll pray for your good fortune. White suggests you two get ready and asks how your Santa suits are. You ask if there's something special about them, though you note that you did accept them without a second thought earlier.

White explains that these clothes were ordered for use in the piñata smashing, meant to handle the current weather and draw attention to you guys. They've also been fitted with temperature regulation, so they'll be cool even in this heat. He tried his and it works great. Yasuyori says that's reassuring and thanks him for the suit. White notes that there's already a lot of visitors who've come to watch, so it's about time to get started. Yasuyori nods, then asks you for your hand and suggests going together. You tell him you guys should do your best to take back Christmas. Yasuyori says you can count on him, and White suggests that the rest of them get going too. He notes that Black is better at this, but he can't really say that now.

Time passes as the scene shifts to the picnic area in front of the hotel at Andvari's resort. Tons of people from all around Tokyo have gathered in anticipation of the new Christmas, and the camera pans through the gang, the jocks, and the event party before settling on Echo, who is close to freaking out at all the people here and worrying about whether she can do her job right. Taromaiti says she's in charge of defending the sound equipment area, so if anything happens she'll come help. Echo nods at this and tries to calm herself down, and White asks her to support him on this since he's not used to it. Echo replies that she will and says it's an honor to help Santa.

Shirou says it's about time to get started, and Ryouta comments on how unbelievable it feels to know it's late at night with the (fake) sun shining so bright. Kengo asks about Christmas coming back when this is all done and asks how that even works. Touji is surprised Kengo didn't understand, but he offers to explain it to him again. Shirou starts by talking about how an unsetting sun appeared, which caused rumors of Christmas being cancelled to spread. Ryouta says he can see why people would think that if there's no night time since Santa is supposed to come at night.

Shirou points out that the sun is really a piñata though, and Touji explains that a culture from the southern hemisphere celebrates Christmas by hitting a piñata and handing out the candy that's in it. So the plan is that if the people here see and believe that, then Christmas will come when the piñata is broken. At least, that's how you guys expect things to go. The false sun will be done with its job and Christmas will arrive.

Ryouta asks if things will be fine if you guys break the piñata during the show, so Touji says that’s the main idea. It's all to do with faith, which he chooses to skip explaining about. But anyways, Ziz's job was to put on pastorela performances to show the idea that Christmas is coming. Chouji's rosca de reyes was meant to put interest into Christmas, and now the show is to wrap things up and make it happen. Ded talks to Echo and asks if she's ready to start. Echo answers that she is, then says she'll handle supporting with the production. She then turns on the equipment and starts playing the event music.

As the music starts strumming peoples' tempo, the crowd's attention starts to focus on the stage. Ded starts playing the host as he apologizes for the wait, then announces that it's time for the AndvaResort's Christmas Countdown event and the piñata smashing. He begins by showing everyone some piñatas that you guys have gotten at some point, which appear in the sky decorated with stars, and the crowd ohhs and ahhs at them floating and bouncing around.

Durga is amazed as she compares the piñatas to stars circling a track field. Gunzou is put off by this description and says she could have come up with something more romantic than that. Kyuuma is also amazed at how the things are flying around despite not being attached by strings to anything. Ashigara figures there must be some sort of trick to them since they don't have any wings, and Itzamna is impressed at how the Santa Power is being used. Ded laughs and comments on everyone's surprise. He then starts talking about how the piñatas will be circling above everyone and explains how they're like shining stars patterned after the sun. If they go, then the night will come, and that in turn means Christmas night will arrive.

Randos in the crowd start talking among themselves about Christmas coming since they heard it was cancelled. They buy into the idea though and are excited at the prospect of Christmas coming along with Santa since some of them had given up on it. White then announces that it's now 10:30 pm, and if the piñatas aren't broken, then Christmas will get skipped over. He directs everyone's attention to the Santa Clauses chosen as a representative of the people and prompts the crowd to clap.

Gunzou points out to Ashigara that you and Yasuyori are up there. Ashigara gets indignant about Yasuyori being in a Santa outfit and insists that sumo wrestlers are supposed to fight in a mawashi. Durga tries to get him to lighten up by pointing out that it's the Christmas season, so he'd pretty much have to wear it even if he had things besides that outfit. Kyuuma pulls out his phone to take pictures since it's unusual for Yasuyori to be wearing that, and Ded picks this moment to tell the crowd that the piñatas are filled with candy. When the piñatas are broken, the candy will fall down on everyone, and Ded asks that they share it among themselves. He then tells you and Yasuyori to do your best.

You and Yasuyori look up at the piñatas floating in midair for a moment before you turn to White and ask how you're supposed to break them like this. White realizes he forgot to mention that, then says there's something every Santa needs. He then calls out for some reindeer to come help you guys, and on his signal two reindeer-shaped rocking horses fly down to you two. Yasuyori figures this is part of the show and says you guys will ride them to fly up, so he gets on one first. You question how the things fly, but Ded declines to answer. You then either ask if he's telling you to get on, call him pushy, or roll with it and say you're off.

As you and Yasuyori fly out, you freak out about the ride and can call out to Yasuyori. He however looks unfazed by this as he smiles at you, which you take as a sign of his faith in you and say you just have to do it. Yasuyori makes his move first as he smashes some piñatas. Back on the ground Ryouta is excited about the candy falling down, and Kengo cheers you on and tells you to look cool out there. You psyche yourself up and start swinging, leading Yasuyori to compliment your sword skills. He says he can't fall behind though, then pushes his reindeer forward. The two of you fly higher on, taking turns breaking piñatas, causing more candy to fall to the crowds as they cheer and clap for you two.

Itzamna praises you two for your determination while Arachne says the candy is great and wishes she had some tea to go with it. Ziz offers her some, saying it's Darjeeling and hopes that she'll like it. Arachne takes an interest in how beautiful Ziz's wings are, then thanks her for the tea. Back to your end, you take note of the crowd getting excited and say to keep going. Yasuyori acknowledges you, saying he can keep going and swings some more.

Shirou sighs in relief down below at things going so well, then says it looks like Christmas will be coming with no problems. The Purple Evil is excited as it catches some of the falling candy. Itzamna starts to say his fears were unfounded and hopes it'll all end safely, except he then notices something happening. Back up above, Yasuyori is surprised when the piñatas start glowing. You wonder what's up as you start getting a bad feeling, then tell Yasuyori to get in closer with you. One of the piñatas then fires off a laser beam which grazes Yasuyori's reindeer, which freaks him out as you call out to him.

Ded says it's not his Santa Power making them do that, so he asks what's going on. You ask the same thing up above as you pick up on hostility from the inanimate(?) object. Chouji expresses surprise that the piñatas could do that, and Ziz wonders when that happened. If it's safe then it's fine, but she's getting worried. Shirou starts yelling that this should be impossible, alarming Touji as he tries to calm him down and ask if this wasn't part of the plan. Kengo remembers that Touji wouldn't know since he was busy with shrine work, and Ryouta tells Touji that the gang made the piñatas together out of cardboard and filled them up themselves.

Back to your side of things, Yasuyori dodges another laser beam and asks what the hell is going on. His reindeer ride starts shining too, which he asks about next. Ded is presumably using his Santa magic to speak to you guys as he apologizes for what's going on and says it's an emergency. He's not sure why this is happening, but he starts reasoning that faith = memories = information = light and that's probably why the piñatas are shooting lasers now given how jam packed they are. Anyways, he tells you he's transferred the power he was using to fly the piñatas over to your reindeer, so they should be able to fly better now. He asks you guys to destroy the piñatas, and to believe in him to the end.

You comment that Ded sounds like he's emotionally suffering. Yasuyori warns you to be careful as the piñatas will be attacking again soon. You thank Yasuyori and tell him the two of you can destroy them together. Yasuyori acknowledges this as an order and says he'll show you how well he can break them as the episode battle launches. More story happens after that.

The story picks back up towards the end of the battle as you yell that you guys can do this and that there's only a few piñatas left. Yasuyori warns you that he's getting a bad feeling, at which point your reindeer gets blasted by a laser. Yasuyori then yells for you to jump over to him where he can catch you. His reindeer is only grazed, but that's still enough damage to keep him from flying it right, so he tells you to hold on tight. It starts making rattling noises as it floats unsteadily in the air.

On the ground, Gunzou points out that one of the reindeer is slowing down. Kyuuma can see that it's Yasuyori's reindeer and that you're over there with him, which must mean there's trouble. Ashigara reacts in shock to this, and Itzamna is concerned as he says his bad feeling came to light. He also says that if the piñatas aren't broken, then Christmas may not come to Tokyo.

Back to your side, Yasuyori observes that the situation is the worst it can be. The piñatas are gathering together and watching you guys, but you guys have no way of attacking. You then ask Yasuyori if he can hear something, which you figure out soon to be music. Yasuyori is surprised by the question, and the story decides to rewind a bit to show some stuff elsewhere.

Echo is concerned for you and Yasuyori as she watches you guys. She says she needs to do something, but she's not sure what at first. Ashigara runs in and asks to use the equipment so that he can cheer you guys on. Echo freaks out at him being here and tries to tell him that it's basically employees only at the sound setup area, but a voice tells her it's okay and asks her to hear Ashigara out. Ded and Taromaiti turn up to Echo's surprise, and White says he knows that they need Ashigara's help. They also need Echo's help, and he asks if she'll do so. Taromaiti tells Echo that she can choose, though she notes that it looks like she's already decided. Echo nods, then meets Ashigara's eyes before sending out her floating speakers and activating her NP.

Back to your end, you guys can hear a voice coming along with the feelings it carries. Ashigara is singing some sumo song which surprises Yasuyori, and Ashigara starts telling him to try harder. He was watching him since earlier and says Yasuyori can do better than that. You question hearing Ashigara's voice, and Ashigara continues telling Yasuyori that he's supposed to be stronger than what he's been showing here, then goes back to singing his sumo song.

Kyuuma adds in his cheers and support, telling Yausyori not to give up. Durga is confident that Yasuyori can just open hand slap the laser beams away, and Gunzou says it takes a lot to handle Ashigara in a match, so he cheers Yasuyori on too. Random nobodies start sending their support too. Some lady asks Yasuyori to break the piñatas since she's been looking forward to Christmas so much. At least one child is in the crowd and asks you guys to keep going because he's been a good boy all year and doesn't want that to go to waste. Then some guy cheers you on since a hot Christmas is nice, but a cold Christmas is fine too.

Yasuyori comments to you that having friends and support is awesome. Arachne yells to Yasuyori to yank on the string on his clothes as hard as he can. You are confused but you pull on the string for him. This causes almost all of Yasuyori's Santa suit to fall off, to his great shock. Arachne then fiddles around with her Reality Marble shenanigans and says it's time for her guerilla fashion show. She starts talking about how Yasuyori has a personality that's easy to influence, which affects his performance. She notes that while he's got little to no issue with showing his body, he's unused to baring his heart. So that's why she made this Santa suit to fit him! After a bit of panning over Yasuyori, Arachne describes how it has a sense of liberation that encourages the breath of life and creates a silhouette that emphasizes physical beauty. If he wears this outfit and receives the cheers of his friends, then his heart will start welling up with power. Arachne then ends her presentation there.

Yasuyori is embarrassed as he tries to talk to you. You either tell him you're wearing the same thing and that you're embarrassed, but you try to rally yourself and say you guys should keep it up. Yasuyori starts laughing, saying you're gutsy as ever. He thinks about how he's made mistakes in the past, and he thinks about how he'll probably show how unsightly he is again in the future. But still, he's able to think that he can keep going forward and not stop if there's someone who'll be with him and show everything.

Yasuyori says he's going, then asks you to hang on tight. You say you will, then grab on to him. Yasuyori calls out to the feelings that are in the piñatas, saying he'll lay them bare now and calls out his NP. His short sword starts shining with the light with the power to expose destiny, and your own sword starts shining too. The two of you fly higher and higher, taking damage while you cover for each other's blind spots and shine on each other's dark spots.

Itzamna is entranced by watching you two fight, which stirs a memory of someone who still stood up even after committing a wrongdoing that could not be taken back, and knowing the pain of failure and injury. They tasted failure multiple times and lived in disgrace, but they kept on trying it over. Most people who suffer pain, shame, and failure eventually stop pressing on, but if you keep going past it all and find somewhere beyond it, then...

Yasuyori asks you to stay with him to the end, so you nod and say you gutsy should shout together. Yasuyori shouts a sumo yell, and the rest of the piñatas are destroyed. Yasuyori says after that that his artifact can release things that are sealed, so smashing piñatas with it is easy for him to do. He then thanks you, saying you guys won because you were with him. He suggests landing back down and regrouping with everyone, though he notes he should find his clothes first before that.

Some time later, Itzamna talks about how great the young are, though what happened was a little too exciting for an old man like him. Ded sighs about what happened, then says you two did great at doing your jobs. He then thanks everyone else for their part, then asks Echo to hand him a mic. After she does so, White starts talking about how all of the piñatas made for this day to bring in Christmas have been broken. All that's left is the last one which should break shortly, and Ded prompts everyone to look up and pray for Christmas night to come. The crowd looks up and does so, but suddenly the unsetting sun shakes for a moment and gets bigger and brighter, shocking everyone. It is now 11 pm on Christmas Eve, and time is running out as the episode ends.
