Instead of picking back up with where we left off, the game starts up a flashback that starts describing Orgus's ring as proof of being the legitimate heir to the throne of Valinor. It shines with the power of healing, meant to protect the life of the royal family. Aside from protection from war damage, it also protects its wearer from assassinations and disease. Orgus has had the ring since before he was old enough to understand what was happening around him, and eventually he understood what the ring means as well as his origins.
At one point in the past, a choice had to be made for the sake of the
kingdom and its people between two brothers in the royal family. The
choice was made to favor the younger brother with a weaker constitution
while the older brother Orgus was apparently disowned. Whatever having
his named removed is supposed to mean.
Orgus secretly carried the pride of royalty as he was raised as well as the thoughts that he was abandoned by his family. These two feelings clashed together within him since he was young, which led to questions. Why did he have to be cast out? Why did it have to be him? If it had to be one of them, it should have been fine if it weren't him, so why?
As time passed, Orgus enlisted with the knights who would protect the subjects of his country. He understood that as the older brother he was meant to carry more important burdens, and that he was born to protect others. He believed that as someone born with an especially robust body amongst even ogres that he had to do so. And so he bade farewell to his weaker self who cried all the time.
Orgus put himself through hellish training, and by showing the results of his abilities, he rose to the rank of knight captain. When he was informed that the legendary hero appeared, he knew what it was he needed to do. If the legends are correct, then the overlord who goes against the hero should appear as well. The overlord will destroy every country, killing many. Since Orgus was born to protect, he thought that he should sacrifice himself so as to cut away the foreseen grief of his land.
Flashback focuses on the day Orgus set off to go looking into the hero for himself, and he was given a simple sendoff. He originally wanted to get all his things in order and leave without saying anything to anyone. Despite that, he felt something special for the ones who raised him and the ones close to him. There was no way he could turn them down when they said they wanted to see him off.
Among the people seeing Orgus off was an ogre boy, the actual son of the family that took him in. The boy had an innocent kind of respect and belief in him, and Orgus gently patted him on the head. A voice speaks (I think it may be Orgus's) as it asks, "Why? If I can protect this young boy, then why on that day did I--?" It's described as a delicate, tearful voice belonging to someone else.
Orgus ignored this voice he hears, carrying on as he always did. He behaved as the strong knight captain, never once revealing a glimpse of the conflict that burns within him. He believed he should be that way because that was what everyone around wanted of him.
Back to the present, Orgus brings Nekros's name back up again and refers to him as a parasite taking Bacchus's body. He asks what his goal is, and if he stands against you guys or against the overlord. Nekros is surprised at Orgus's phrasing and sort of denies the parasite thing. Orgus is still suspicious as he changes it to describing him as possessing Bacchus's real body. Nekros proceeds to laugh at this and suggests that 'true body' doesn't apply to either of them.
Orgus gets annoyed as he demands Nekros give a straight answer. Nekros says the questions he's asking are of little concern, at least to him for now. Orgus objects to the idea that it's fine for him to be so blase about his standpoints, insisting that reasons and meaning exist. Yuuji is a bit shocked by Orgus's outburst, and Nekros decides that he's fine with giving some sort of answer now then. He still says that the question is pointless since he can't do anything though.
You ask Nekros what he means when he says he can't do anything, so he says there's no deeper meaning to what he said. At this moment, he describes himself as "someone not allowed to do anything in particular." "No one expects anything of him," and he compares himself to a ghost. Orgus doesn't say anything to that.
Nekros goes on by saying that if a shadow is pushed into a vessel, possesses a will, and gains a name, then that will become true. He has a bond with the one who gave him his name, and now he has surfaced in this world. The name that makes him who he is is just a wedge or a lynchpin. Because of that, he says right now he's free. The world has not given him any class or power.
Yuuji asks Nekros why he showed up in front of you two then. He just silently smiles more at being called by his name, so Orgus repeats the question as well. Is that what he means when he said that he has no will? Nekros thinks on it and decides to say even without a class or power he wanted to find something to tie him. He's learned that freedom is hard to bear and is frightening. He understands now why people who live go on looking for chains to tie themselves down.
Orgus sighs as he says he doesn't have time to debate philosophy, then insists that Nekros briefly answer as to whether he's friend or foe. Nekros repeats his point by saying whether he's an enemy or not is up to you guys. If that's what the world wants, then he'll be an enemy to all that lives.
Orgus is shocked and is about to ask if Nekros is the overlord, but Nekros beats him to the punch to deny it as he says the overlord is already somewhere else. Orgus demands to know where they are, but Nekros says he's run out of time and hopes to see you two again again. He switches place with Bacchus, who has no idea what happened.
Narration points out how the sun is rising from the horizon, and scene shifts over to Andvari and Leopold keeping an eye out for Fafnir coming back since they plan on grabbing some stuff. Or at least Andvari is. Leopold thinks going into Fafnir's lair is a crazy idea, but Andvari assures him they aren't here to steal the treasures he's most attached to. He's looking for fallen scales and leftover bathwater.
Andvari says it's time to go and tries to fire Leopold up by calling him a first class adventurer. Leopold gets into it as he says he can't a nobody forever, and that he totally needs to show That One Guy that he's competent when it counts. It's around then that they sort of notice that Fafnir is back and behind them.
Camera then shifts over to the party as you all reach the summit of the mountain. Orgus is relieved you guys managed to get there without being spotted, and narration says you guys left Galahad and the others behind to rest as you came over. Sol says the soldiers aren't terribly injured, but they were hit by Fafnir's fire magic. No magic can fix that, but they can do something about it if they can get some dragon sweat or blood.
Orgus mentions that according to rumors, there should be a spring that Fafnir uses for bathing in his lair. Bacchus says he does feel ashamed sneaking around like this, but he'll put up with it this time. Orgus suggests splitting up to look for the spring since you guys need to be out before Fafnir comes back, but then he hears yells for help and is surprised someone else is around.
Andvari and Leopold are running around for their lives as Fafnir tries to firebomb them. Leopold goes I told you so on Andvari and asks for any ideas. Andvari complains and tries to argue to Fafnir that it's just a little water, but he's not in any state of mind to listen. You guys run over and Orgus needs a moment to grasp what's happening. You recognize Andvari as well as Leopold as that adventurer from the bazaar.
Orgus hesitates since it seems that neither Andvari nor Leopold are from Valinor, figuring them to be from Svartalfheim and Midgard. If things stay as is, then there's no guarantee they'll make it out alive. That'd mean he'd no longer be around to protect the hero and the kingdom would be exposed to danger. And if Andvari and Leopold are in this situation of their own volition, would it be right to save them? Then again, pissing off the dragon king could lead to the kingdom's destruction too. So does he step in to help or not...?
Before Orgus can think any more on this dilemma, you call out and jump in to intervene to his shock. Fafnir starts diving at you, causing Yuuji to freak out. Just as Fafnir is about to crush the three of you, Tanngrisnir intervenes by rescuing you, Andvari, and Leopold. Once you guys are out of the way, Tanngrisnir signals to Doga, and that barbarian looking guy he was with starts swinging his hammer at Fafnir. He hits him with superhuman seeming strength and blows him away.
Andvari is glad to be alright and tries to ask who Doga is. Leopold recognizes him and asks why he's here. Doga speaks like a caveman as he says he followed after him because he was worried about him being a weak. Andvari asks Leo about knowing him, but Leopold is annoyed at being saved by him again when he was trying to look cool. He also asks if Tanngrisnir is his new friend, though Doga says Tanngrisnir decided on his own to follow him since he resembles someone he used to know. Doga blushes as he says Leo is his best friend and that he doesn't need to worry.
Leopold gets pissy as he denies being jealous, and Tanngrisnir turns to you to ask if you're okay. He apologizes for carrying you roughly, then says your recklessness at charging at a dragon reminded him of his old master. It also reminds him of someone else he met in Tokyo. He just loves it and he's glad he was saved., then invites you to have some stew together later if there's time.
Camera focuses back on Orgus as he asks why you jumped out like that as narration looks at his thoughts. He thinks about how he couldn't didn't move. Back when there was someone he ought to protect, he made a judgment call as to the worth of doing so. The young boy from back then is looking at him now, the man who lamented not being chosen and cursed himself for not being protected. It's someone else within him looking at him, who lamented his birth and cursed his parents and brother that day.
Galahad shows up calling to Orgus and breaks this reverie, and Orgus notices as he asks why he pushed himself so hard to get here. Despite burning up with a fever, Galahad came all this way to give Orgus something that was given to the previous CO of the garrison. Whatever it is shocks Orgus at the sight of it.
Back to Doga, he's not doing so well against Fafnir's attacks. Tanngrisnir is evading well enough until his leg injury kicks in, and as Fafnir gets ready to blast you guys Yuuji freaks out about being unable to get away. But then, Orgus runs in to tank the attack saving you. You ask if he protected you and/or ask him about the armor he has on. Orgus however calls you a huge idiot for trying to save someone else even though you aren't good enough to keep yourself safe. You either can't argue or try to say you did it without thinking.
Anyways, Orgus says if he left you alone you'd die without getting very far, so he'll protect you then. He pulls out a ring and says it's supposed to have healing powers. It might help in getting out of a bind, so he offers it to you and asks if you'll accept it. You can either ask if he's proposing to you, say you'll take it since it's an emergency, or just shut up and accept it.
In A, there's an extra line where Orgus says he doesn't care at all about how you take it. In any case you take the ring, and the healing light it has bathes the surrounding area. Everyone's injuries slowly heal, and Fafnir roars as he readies to attack again. Orgus tells everyone to get behind him as the episode battle starts, and more story happens after that.
After the battle, Sol picks things up by casting a defensive spell and Bacchus casts his bind spell. Orgus continues tanking for everyone even as the attacks tear away at his armor, and you call out to him. Yuuji thinks to himself about how his body is moving, and you glare at Fafnir and/or stare at him. You make out two shadows, one of Fafnir's and one the form of someone else's power.
You flashback to what Nekros had said earlier about how putting a shadow with a will into a vessel and giving it a name will make it true, and how the bond he has with the one who named him made him surface. You yell out Fafnir's name, and for a second you think you saw his shadow shudder. Your sword flashes as if to reach for the gap, and you swing it down. The shadow representing Hreidmar's power is cut off, and it melts back into the earth and sky.
Fafnir snaps back to his senses as he asks what he was doing. After that he quickly notices Andvari about to walk away with a bunch of stuff as well as the light of the ring on his hand. A beat passes, and Fafnir goes back to being pissed as he recognizes it. Andvari turns to Leopold and tells him they need to get away as he escapes in a panic. Leopold is baffled to caught up in this and complains that he really is going to avoid getting suckered into things. Doga runs off to follow him, with Tanngrisnir following after him in turn.
Orgus is relieved that everyone is safe and chokes out that he thinks better of you now before collapsing. Yuuji calls out to him asking if he's okay, and his ring shines again so it seems he's not in any mortal danger. Yuuji sighs his own relief before wondering why he was able to see Fafnir as two people earlier. Then there was the part where he separated them. He gets the feeling he wasn't the one who did it, more like he was borrowing someone else's power to do it.
Yuuji wonders aloud if someone else is within him, but then yells about how tired he is as he collapses too. Sol is concerned it's something serious until he hears the snoring, and Bacchus laughs about Yuuji making a stand and how cute he looks asleep. Orgus laughs too and admits that maybe there really is a hero that can save the world. He smiles as he gently rubs your face, and the episode ends as it notes how clear his smile is now unlike before.
